So there are two books by the name of Lawn Boy. One is written by Gary Paulsen and is aimed at 4th graders and is entirely appropriate. The other is this book that by Jonathan Evison and is clearly adult in nature. They ordered the wrong book and put it in the library.

it wasnt just two books, or one wrong book in a library. This has been a months long battle between parents and the district, to clean up the reading list for students.
Some of the books had extremely graphic sexual content, and served no purpose in an educational environment. One of the books described the difference between the insertion of toys versus genitalia. Why would you suggest a 16 year old read that, while we ban books like To Kill a Mockingbird or Huckleberry Finn?
I am not in that district, and have no dog in the fight...but have watched this fight from afar, because I know several parents who do have kids there. I was honestly surprised that the district resisted to the extent they did. I would have thought they'd have apologized and removed those books, after being made aware of the content.

I'm going to say something incendiary but true. What percentage of high school teachers in the Leander ISD are women? Our society is collapsing because women think that their liberation lies in being libertine rather than in being virtuous. Once married, men permit their wives to force them into allowing conduct from their daughters that is clearly more appropriate for a prostitute than for a women who respects herself and who understands her dignity.Quote:
My sister is on some parent committee/group where they read all of the books that are for 9th graders in Leander ISD. She has told me some ridiculous stories about what she read in books where the other parents didn't even notice it until she read some insane sentences to them from the books. I don't have any examples handy, but very graphic and very sexual in nature, talking about blowjobs, etc. One of the books was written at a 3rd grade reading level and was meant to give you a sense for what its like to grow up in the hood from a black person's perspective, but it talks all about drugs and sex, etc.
BS, my kids have read books that are sexually explicit between gay couples.MouthBQ98 said:
They claimed they ordered the "wrong" book and then were notified if the contents repeatedly and did nothing across the district for weeks afterwards.
Inept, or worse.
" The Cay " and " Where the Red Fern Grows " as great books. Remember reading " Hatchet " " Number the Stars " Also excellent books for kids !astros4545 said:Hatchet is a great bookBlueAg2003 said:

If this is true, sounds like a hilarious error

I didn't realize this at the time. When transitioning from 5th to 6th grade, as part of their required summer reading my kids read a book, about a gay couple, and had quite a few explicit sex themes. Forget the name...1234567891011 said:

It would not surprise me if they're deliberately pushing degeneracy on children and lying about it. It may not be the case here, but look at the other things they're teaching across America. These people are evil.AgGrad99 said:

There was a big kerfuffle in the early 80's at my jr high about a book we were required to read that talked about a boy and girl sleeping together and then committing suicide bc they loved each other but their parents wouldn't allow it. Parents freaked out and were worried that it would incite jr high kids to get hot and bothered. Glad I made it through those timesDenverAg91 said:

What healthy teenage boy wouldn't get hot and bothered by 17 y/o Olivia Hussey's tits?BluHorseShu said:

I would hope it was an accident but it makes you wonder.
Not sure. I'll let u know if I talk to any 'libs'. That one author, Bill Shake(something) definitely sexualized those poor kids. But you had to understand his literary subtlety.deddog said:Which has nothing to do with the topic at handBluHorseShu said:There was a big kerfuffle in the early 80's at my jr high about a book we were required to read that talked about a boy and girl sleeping together and then committing suicide bc they loved each other but their parents wouldn't allow it. Seriously, why can't libs stop sexualizing kids?
Though it does explain why so many voted for a Pedo for President.
If by liberal you mean I don't fluff Trump and don't agree with every right wing nut job…then yes. Though technically I've voted Republican down ticket in every election except one. Not a fan of Biden…but it's hilarious how Trump supporters use the pedo moniker to describe Biden when Trump had built up mileage on Epstein AirlinesTom Kazansky 2012 said:Aren't you liberal?BluHorseShu said:There was a big kerfuffle in the early 80's at my jr high about a book we were required to read that talked about a boy and girl sleeping together and then committing suicide bc they loved each other but their parents wouldn't allow it.
