Had lunch with some liberal friends today. Was told what's going on in Afghanistan is no bid deal because "it doesn't effect them". I guess 13 servicemen dying is nbd because you aren't personally effected, just sick. Our country us screwed due to gen z and the millennials.

The country needs an "ontological shock" in the words of Harvard psychiatrist John Mack.

Looking like they will be the last such generation. The one after is going to face times more familiar to members of eras like the Late Rome Empire or 1920s Russia.

It's no big deal until it does affect them. This is the generation that was never taught to make their bed in the morning.

Proactivity is not a strong suit of theirs.

I say that as a millennial myself.

Yes. A complete lack of understanding of the values and principles that brought them their historically high standard of living.

Watched the first 6 minutes.

When it said Millennials, especially Parkland high kids, were the hero generation, my laughter made me stop the video.

Good new is, we will be back in great times by 2028. So we have that to look forward to.

(By the way, calling 1984 to 2008 a bad time in America is hilarious. Most of that was some of the best times this country as ever seen)

No offense but how does this effect me ? We've been in Afghanistan for two decades thousands of lives lost, how is this any different. All it shows is that the government will throw you to the dogs with no hesitation

This was 100% preventable. I guess you can say you don't give a ***** That's your choice.

Just know the spouses and children who have lost husbands and fathers because Biden was a damn fool they will live every single day with that grief. It will never pass.

Trust me. I know.

Well, it affects me.

My friend, a Capt, with whom I served with a year ago is that SPMGTF commander. Luckily he texted us yesterday when we asked if he was ok. He now has to deal with writing letters to the families and the lifelong burden of those Marines' and Sailor's deaths.
One of those Marines was potentially a recruit under my command not more than a year and a half ago. I quite possibly enlisted this marine into the Marine Corps after 12 weeks.

It affects me

There is more variability within a generation than across generations.

These guys sound like pathetic human beings but they might be so dense because the war has been going on for the majority of their lives. Maybe they're just used to it?

It is understandable that they wouldn't have a visceral reaction. Most of Gen Z has no memory of the USA before 9/11 and we have been in Afghanistan for almost their entire life. That they don't understand the significance of yesterday's events shouldn't exactly be surprising to you.

Also millennials fought this ridiculous war for 20 years so let's can the boomerific generation blame game.

Bingo. I remember back when shock and awe happened I was just a kid, didn't understand really what was going on. War has been going on for 20 of my 25 years of life, it's sad but not shocking when I see things like this happen. I don't know how I am supposed to react, should I go quit my job and head over to the army recruiter ?

What you and others are missing is the reason you haven't had a series of 9/11s is because we have been in a semi-occupation mode in the main nests of that kind of activity.(Afghanistan, Asia Minor) But being there is not enough, you have to be assertive. Under Obama Islamists were allowed to make gains everywhere (ISIS is a creation of that time) and you will notice the amount of attacks around the world stepped up sharply from Bush's tenure.

This is most likely because like is definitely true in three cases - Boston, Garland, San Bernardino -- the Obamians had lifted and ceased to do the covert "behind scenes" intel and probably - eliminations -- that Bush-Cheney were doing and let things just go. Whatever the reason, it is a fact under Bush43 they very much limited any such events.

So we need to stay there forever or we will keep being attacked. No thanks I'm not gonna live my life in fear of a terrorist blowing me up. I truly feel for all those young men who lost their lives and didn't need to

It's pretty clear that "who cares it doesn't effect me!" Is the new leftist talking point to allow them to pretend it's okay that they voted in the worst president ever.

It is a volunteer army. Arguably its no one's business what they do or where `work'. Its part of the job. The casualties had become very limited, most you talk to believed in the mission as a general idea, if not always the execution (that's the problem with civilian control).

It has nothing to do with staying there forever --- it was working in its assigned task, and the thing to do was to make sure the Ghani government was at least sufficiently poised to hold to half the country or major parts of territory, and not to literally pull out in a way like pulling a rug out from under a man on crutches.

Furthering our national security is a big part of the military's role ---- again, a *volunteer* one ---- its like lecturing on the dangers of miners in Africa, who freely chose their job. You can stay home if you want, but let the miners do their work. Same goes for reporters yakking about it.

You don't want to squander them in any way, but its not the "staying there forever" clods that are THERE, it is the soldiers and Marines that are THERE. `Forever' is meaningless. A given warrior is not there indefinitely.

Yeah, indifference is worse than actively attacking, spitting on, and abusing returning vets...

Waste of money these days is clearly irrelevant.

But even if you ran with that, you maybe should look at what the present cost was --- maybe it is cheaper than having to hastily redeploy or go into wars. Certainly the low intensity it had settled into in the past years suggests maybe it was giving sufficient return.
