I-14 Corridor in Infrastructure Bill

Sorry if this is old news.

Saw this report that a new interstate is included in the infrastructure bill being discussed in congress right now. It was introduced by Senator Cruz (Texas-R) and Senator Warnock (Georgia-D) and the amendment was approved by voice vote. Would link Augusta, Georgia to far west Texas and it would go through Bryan/College Station.

I can only think this would help with recruiting and travelling in the SEC. I'll believe it when I see it, cause this has been talked about forever, right?

My guess is it will mostly just redesignate current roads like it did for 190 in Bell County. We already have I14 signs.

But I am sure there will be some imminent domain issues in some places.

Considering all the names of the military installations it connects I think it should be nicknamed the "Those who shall not be named" Highway

Seriously this! Do temple and laurel (two of the larger cities on that map) really need to be connected by a highway?

Lots of sides to this, including:

1) Eminent domain concerns from rural landowners;
2) Texas interstates not being able to grow at the same rate as our urban population does;
3) Providing new corridors for rail and utilities such as pipelines and electric transmission lines; and
4) Providing free to drive interstate highways versus tolled lanes and toll road alternatives to existing roads.

In general I'd say that transportation improvements generally pay for themselves (at some point), so that this would probably be a good thing. But I'd say we have a greater need for another north-south interstate versus an east-west interstate.

It will update US 190 to interstate standards. Us190/sh6 are same from hearne to bryan then us190 follows sh21 to madisonville then i45 to Huntsville. It doesn't go by Rellis. Also there was a push to follow sh30 instead of sh21 to Huntsville but I think it is still sh21

Design has already been worked on for connecting it through Texas

Driven to Florida or elsewhere on the east coast recently? Traffic is quite congested on the major east west highways currently. With continued population growth in southern states, commercial trucking will have to increase to keep providing goods to all of the new people.

Finalized publicly? We know what roads this is going to be using. Design starts on loads of transportation projects before its finalized

The Western section past Killeen wasn't part of the original idea but like everything else the West Texas Extortion team got it done.

They did the same in BHAM with I-22 that goes (or will eventually?) to Memphis, most of it is still US highway with I-22 signage.

The only real road work I ever saw was the building of the interchange between I-65 and I-22

Yes, we should pass trillion dollar infrastructure bills so that we can have "free" highways. That makes perfect sense.
RDV-1992
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I know what you're saying. But we've either had no or very few new interstates since the 1950s. Certainly improvements to existing interstates, but not new ones.

Highways cost money but improve commerce.

Also, from a more cynical standpoint, the federal government is going to waste that trillion dollars somewhere. They might as well waste them on us.

They're using existing right of ways and just upgrading those roads to highway standards.
