I have never heard of this happening in a team sport in my lifetime. ESPECIALLY from someone that was the goat.
Breaking News: Simone Biles said she withdrew from the women’s gymnastics team final because she wasn’t in a good place mentally to compete after so much pressure to win. It is not clear whether she will compete in her individual events. https://t.co/J5fiOBxeYu

And people are HAPPY for her for quitting. Like it's something to be valued and admired. Some are even saying it was LEADERSHIP. Look at these tweets!
We need to recognize the leadership that Simone Biles is demonstrating here. This is setting a good example. The way mental health is so often dismissed is continuing to harm all of us. Good on her for being a leader. https://t.co/Fx7uWz1FNU

This is a big day for gymnastics - what a role model Simone is. For so long gymnasts have been expected to do their job no matter what. I believe so many career ending injuries could have been avoided over the years if gymnasts were supported when they say they weren’t up to it.

Can we get rid of the narrative that quitting sport to focus on mental health is some sort of weakness?

Reading comments about Naomi + Simone is making me sick. Let young women (esp. Black) take care of themselves, the world already wants them to crumble!
