I suspect this will be a headline that will become more common moving forward. Congrats, Tesla drivers. You're breaking the grid trying to convert all that good coal electricity into your green power.

And yes, it is real;
Quote:

Before the Flex Alert hours begin, residents can take the following steps during the day, as outlined by the ISO:
  • Pre-cool your home by lowering the thermostat
  • Use major appliances, like your dishwasher, and clothes washer and dryer
  • Close window coverings to keep your home or apartment cool
  • Charge electronic devices
  • Charge electric vehicles
The power grid manager said: "The ISO is continuing to monitor weather and grid conditions and will have additional announcements as information becomes available.
"Precise hours for a Flex Alert depend on hourly demand and supply forecasts and can change as conditions warrant," the ISO added.
But don't worry, California has a plan to make things worse.

But carolin - aka Keef - told me they don't have power issues in Cali like they do in Texas.

Don't have an issue with the EVs. They are a machine. It's the arrogance of the people who drive. Not all of them. But lots of them.

We don't like them being forced on us to supposedly solve a problem that's not really problem, and to cast aside a reliable technology that there's no reason to get rid of.

The arrogance is very much there, and annoying AF. Fortunately the arrogance will soon be a thing of the past once Ford, Chevy, and pretty much every foreign car company have only EVs that they sell.

The vehicles themselves are not the issue. Let market forces work and see how they do competitively. Right now they are being pushed as some panacea that will be a big part of ending 'climate change'. The tech just isn't there yet and they aren't profitable without government subsidies. There is a push to force the end of hydrocarbon powered vehicles when the EVs aren't ready for it.

Don't forget when it gets below freezing you lose 40% of your battery capacity, sometimes the batteries will not work at all unless heated up.

Lithium ion batteries have a lot of limitations, lithium titanate are much better

what does that even mean?

This was about Cali on the one hand going all in on EVs, while not having the resources to adequately support that decision. Typical liberal idiocy.

Just because we understand the severe limitations of EVs - one of which is pointed out in the OP, inadequate electrical supply - doesn't mean we have a stick. If you want a vehicle strictly to drive around town, go for it. If you want a fleet vehicle, go for it. One day they might be practical where we don't have to wait 30 minutes for a "quick" charge during a trip, stations are ubiquitous, batteries last longer than 10 years, the grid can actually support it (again, see OP), etc...

It's not EVs. It's EVs being forced upon some people (and agencies) to solve a problem that is slowly solving itself, and the concept that they are absolutely impractical for MANY situations, yet presented as just fine.

I sincerely doubt Elon of Tesla is more worried about the climate than of being able to say he revolutionized the way the world moves, all while making more money than nearly anyone could ever dream of making.

He, like all of these companies, found a market they could exploit to make profits that wouldn't be there otherwise.

Maybe because it's just another inane unneeded leftist policy being pushed on people and paid for by tax payer dollars.

Besides liquid or compressed natural gas would have been cleaner for the planet and easier to actually implement but the leftists have put their weight behind electrical vehicles.

I wouldn't be real excited to order/have a Lordstown truck at this point, as it seems pretty iffy the company will make it. They seem closer to Solyndra than Tesla, imho.

That and the fact that they aren't paying their "fair share" (to borrow a term from the left) of road taxes...

Once a state and/or the fed attempts to change that and put them on an even level of gas/diesel vehicles we will hear screaming about "it's not fair.. we are saving the environment".

When the news story came out a few days ago about people being surprised their thermostats were adjusted by 4 degrees by 'someone' (the power company they let have some control), I immediately hoped that at some point in the near future I will read about electric car owners being upset when the power company 'smart' grid denies them the ability to charge their cars for a few days because of high demand.

I'd say it's more of a small-minded/chicken little way of thinking.

Most EV enthusiastic estimates have the world at only 40% EV by 2050. Throw in the massive amounts of capital it'd take to change your entire production and the cost of the rare earth minerals, (that China has a monopoly on), and you're looking at a business killing proposition.

The companies that have announced they are supposedly going all electric in the future all seem to have small market shares. Makes you think

Hot weather: can't charge (or in the future, actually drains your car for the sake of the grid)

Cold weather: battery performance sucks

Perfect weather: battery degrades over time

I have no idea about the real comparison of the trucks but it sure looks like the EV has much more appropriate tires for traction on grass than the Ford.
