A second Democrat (Wolfe) defends the Republican (Deberry), and the second Democrat (Wolfe) supports buying said first Democrat's (Salazar) item with taxpayer funds.

When she was sworn in last December, this was the other commissioner who was sworn in

It may be based in SLC but half of the owners and management live in Texas.

Also, if Bexar county wants to act like little beeches, the county of Sully Dog of Eastern Nevada could really use $32K for a new boat. There are a lot of women that need rescuing up on Lake Tahoe.

Part that cracks me up is--- when someone goes after a D on social media, THEN we start caring. Go after an R---- Nelson Wolfe don't care.

Pretty sure that if BRC delegated those funds to be used to purchase a specific item, Bexar County could find itself in a pickle. Designated funds are "counted" differently than normal governmental funds acquired through taxation/fees.

Hopefully BRC designated it so that the sheriff's department can tell that commissioner to go pound some Mexican sand somewhere.

This is just local petty politics. Here is my take...

The sheriff manages the sheriff's department, but the commissioners court controls the budget. They are constantly butting heads publicly and behind doors. Lately, the court has been on the sheriff's department for all the overtime at the county jail. It does not help that every couple of weeks we hear another story about a jailer getting fired for inappropriate behavior with an inmate or some other stuff.

So just recently the sheriff goes to court to ask for money to buy a used boat. Normally, the sheriff would have briefed the court ahead of time for this high profile purchase, but he didn't. The court sees it on the agenda, asks a lot of questions, and tables the request until they get their questions answered to their satisfaction.

The crux seems to be the department has access to boats from other agencies like SAPD and Parks Department so the court wants to know if the sheriff's department truly needs a boat. The old saying is a boat is a hole in the water you just pour money in. Buying a boat is just the beginning of a long term budget item.

God forbid our elected officials ask questions about where our money is spent. For once Wolff did his damn job. That guy never met a public dollar he didn't mind spending. And the line Republican is getting lumped in with the Defund The Police movement .

Suddenly the politicians are the bad guys. In comes BRCC to donate $32k to the Bexar County Sheriff's Foundation. This is a non-profit set up for the expressed goal of administering gift and donations to the department. BRCC has good intentions, no doubt, but they are getting in the middle of local politics. Wolff finds out and says the court reserves the right to veto the purchase/gift unless the sheriff's department can make a better case how the maintenance will be paid.

This is a stupid squabble because our midget sheriff would rather complain on TV than get rid of the dead weight in the BCSD

BCSD has been trash for decades. It is one of the most undisciplined, corrupt and inept organizations in the country and that is saying a lot. It is not uncommon to hear on the local news about a sheriff being arrested for DWI, fighting in bars, molesting women, etc...
