So now the food being served to NG in DC is also an insult

Toddler sized snacks?

Breakfast: Apple and a chocolate chip muffin.

How about Pop Tarts, Capri Sun, an apple and granola bar?

Dinner: A mini Jersey Mike's sub and a bag of chips.

National Guard troops stationed at the Capitol famously have had to nap on the building's marble floors, but that's not the worst thing about their working conditions. The food is. The reason: The National Guard Bureau hired a food contractor to feed the troops, but the contractor simply messed up.
Quote:

The troops down at the Capitol say the bad meals didn't start on Day One. In early January, according to Maryland National Guard troops, the meals were fine. Shortly before the inauguration, though, things changed, and the cold, child-sized meals started arriving.

Quote:

The D.C. National Guard has provided food for most of the time the troops have been at the Capitol. It was only when the National Guard Bureau (part of the Pentagon) took over the contracting in recent days that the food went downhill. NGB spokeswoman Nahuku McFadden admitted that the contractor did not provide enough food on at least one occasion.

"Soldiers and Airmen have to go out on their own in the D.C. area and buy their own meals if nothing is donated," one National Guard spouse reported, "mainly because the food delivered and provided by the National Guard is cold or not even worth eating. The breakfast and lunch portions look more like a snack for a toddler than a meal for an adult."

The Guard has a duty to feed the troops decent food, and the units at the Capitol aren't exactly cut off from supply lines. As one former officer put it, "You're telling me that in Washington, D.C., during COVID that there's a restaurant in town that wouldn't do backflips to feed these troops?"

"The National Guard has failed every service member on the ground with their failure to provide adequate nutrition or check on what is being provided," the spouse wrote me. "They are away from their homes, their families and their jobs, working long hours in the cold during a pandemic. The very least that should be done is to provide them with three adult-sized hot meals a day."
Washington Examiner

Way to go Biden. Every Governor should recall their NG members, now.

Good grief how about some protein? I guess it might interfere with their hormones since 90% of the military will be made up of "trans folx" in the near future

Better than MREs. Ever take an MRE poop? It's usually 5-7 days after your first MRE.

Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if those were donated.

The guard is used to bad food and bad sleeping conditions.
Congress on the other hand both Republican and Democrat live like royalty - enjoy great food, gyms, health care, and even baseball fields to play on. They also set up a nice retirement plan as well.

The irony is the guard was called up to protect these people. They left their jobs where most make little to even make less to protect these living like royalty.

Business owners and other citizens begged to have protection while rioters burned their property and luted. Nothing happened but many of these same lawmakers encouraged it!!!

Yep, but we are dealing with barely competent progressives running local government there.

No, this is on the National Guard Bureau. Doesn't mater who is in the White House, they are supposed to take care of their Troops.

Your perception of the world is bizarre.

Surprised they don't have to fill out requisition form 817c-2450 first, mail it in, then wait 14-20 business days for a confirmation fax.

These can both be true at the same time:

1) these "hardships" the guard is "enduring" are nothing compared to a real deployment

2) But they still shouldn't be there enduring them in the first place to be a prop in the fake lib narrative of "muh insurrection"

Bet they will now. Commentary on this story.

Quote:

Capri Sun? Costco soft granola bars? Pop-Tarts? I estimate the retail value of those three plus the apple at less than $3.00, and if bought at wholesale, probably less. The vending machine two-pack cold Pop-Tart would run at $1.50 at retail, tops. The apple, maybe a dollar. The Capri Sun Pacific Cooler would cost $0.22 with a 30-pack retail purchase. The Costco-sold Kirkland Soft and Chewy granola bars, at $8.00 for a box of 64, would go for $0.13 a pop. Grand total at retail prices: $2.85. For 25,000 troops, the cost at retail for the meal to feed all would have been $71,250.
Do National Guard catering contracts, even magnified for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a 30-day window, really go that cheap? Here's an example of a Maryland restaurant that got a National Guard food contract the food they serve looks quite impressive. I can't see them cobbling together toddler snacks.

So whoever it was, it kind of looks as though a contractor took the cash and minimized delivery, quite possibly keeping the extra for himself. There are more ways than one of creating a $6,000 toilet seat, it seems. Or perhaps there were problems with the Guard itself, and the contractor didn't get paid. If that was the case, maybe he had to cobble something together fast from food pantry scraps, which would explain the low nutritional value and very low cost across the board.

Whatever it was, the U.S. Army's own press about everything going swimmingly, echoed by an incurious ABC News, is a bit of a stretch. Cheap toddler snacks substituting as meals and delivered late isn't a healthy picture. Obviously, the Guardsmen had to go someplace and buy a proper meal. Jill Biden should have been passing out sandwiches instead of cookies.

Quote:

Carney is right that some contractor messed up. It's likely it wasn't all of them, for sure, but for those on the serving end, it was far from what they deserved. Who is this contractor, and why is the National Guard Bureau not naming them? It goes in contradiction to the Guard's own press that claimed that the meal logistics and dedication of the staff were all in place. Carney had trouble ascertaining just who the heck was responsible, in fact, with the National Guard Bureau, which runs these contracts, first declaring that it weren't responsible, then, in a subliterate spokeswoman's statement, saying it was. Not a feather in the big boys' cap.

That occurred to me as well. But given the moving goal posts of how long would be the deployments, I guess that was not considered feasible.

I hear FEMA is sending Lincoln Logs, Elmers School Glue, and construction paper to Alabama in response to last night's storm. WHPS says "We upgraded from Elmers Glue-All, because The President recognizes it just was not sufficient for the need of these Americans in Alabama."
