Having a discussion with folks while watching football last night. Everything I have heard is that EVERY NFL player and coach is tested daily for COVID, including game days. If you are positive, immediately have to leave.

So if everyone on the sideline, including support personnel, refs, and broadcast folks have been tested and are negative, why is everyone wearing a mask? If you KNOW that everyone is negative, what is the point of the mask?

Because tests can be wrong? I assume.

Well they did have an issue about the 77 positives test being wrong.

There is no real point. It's all about avoiding backlash by not doing it from the coronbros. Yet, cameras will show many don't care. I know I barely watched yesterday's game and saw one coach with his mask on his chin.

Totally understand tests can be wrong. But if they are tested every day and continue to show negative, that would raise the chance of it being accurate right?

I guess I'm asking if there is a medical position there or if this is a PC statement. Hoping a medical person could provide any info. Not trying to start a political thing here, I'll take that to the other board.

One of the college coaches would take his off to yell and coach his players, then put it back on when watching the game.

They are being used bc it's the rules to be able to play.

Even dumber... in the NBA, everyone is then bubble including media. Yet when they do the pointless coach interviews between quarters they stand 6 ft apart and use a mic on a stick. If everyone is in the bubble and quarantined and tested, what's the point of that?

Far too many people are enjoying this control of the population. Masks are going nowhere unless people start pushing back.

Why does staff move this to politics? This isn't political. Why do discussions about science get removed from the Covid board?

Yep!! Mask are not going away anytime soon regardless of election outcome or vaccination.

All the points mentioned in the previous reply's I have thought about over and over. Makes no sense! But it is the optics, even though all these players, coaches, refs, game assistants etc are being tested that's not good enough for the average person who is a corona freak when watching the game.

If there is no one wearing a mask then many will assume that no operatives are taking place. They will be too lazy or ignorant to research what is going on.

It's all to avoid people whining and causing an issue. So better wear a mask because it's a tangible procedure that can be seen or visualized.

Testing everyone is an intangible or unseen procedure that the viewers on a tv broadcast can't see so by wearing a mask it minimizes or completely shuts them up.

Because you are only negative, in the moment you take the test. The very next, you can magically be exposed.

So dumb..

I would assume that any player who does not with to play by the rules can quit at will and go do something else. Like maybe work at McDonalds?

And you don't like that? You want to force the owners to increase the risk of covid-19 at the potential expense of losing players to it and possibly losing games or their season because of this?

What happened to the idea of employers setting rules that their employees must abide by to keep their jobs?

Should the employees of companies be running the companies now instead of the owners of the companies?

If the players are exposed to the virus at the games, should they be able to take the employers to court for not protecting them?

The concern is that Danuel House gets horny and decides to sneak some strange on campus and gets everyone sick, costing the NBA what little revenue they're going to make from the bubble.

Plus, masks don't work.

What I know is that there was a mutual fist fight and the one losing shot the other. In many places, that would be considered homicide.

The ideal result would have been that the police arrived in time to arrest both of them and throw them in jail for the night.

I think that they are likely somewhat effective depending on a number of factors.

When I got covid, I was wearing mask. The couple I got it from were very sick. The woman spent a long time in the ICU with it. Yet, I had a very mild case. It could be argued, in part, that wearing the mask may have helped limit the viral load to something I could more easily deal with.

They seem to be far more important for those who are contagious to limit the spread to others. I cannot begin to understand the so-called logic of those who argue that a properly worn mask doesn't help control the spread the virus.

If someone doesn't think that it helps restrict the spread of what they exhale, I invite them to wear a face mask and blow out the birthday candles on their birthday cake. (That's not a bad idea anyway for those people who tend to spit when they try to blow out the candles.)

If you are looking for any kind of logical decision making, professional sports is the last place i'd look

So if they aren't absolutely 100% effective, then they are useless?
