If any of you speak Chinese (not I), you know the "filler" word for "that" in Chinese is pronounced "nega". Guess there's no more Chinese spoken at USC after this

I can confirm the Chinese use that sound, similar to an english speaker saying uhhh or uhm.

Na Ga and Zhe Ga (sounds like Jigga) means "That one" and "this one" basically. And they can also sound like nei Ga if the listener doesn't understand the difference in tones. Westerners don't realize there are consonant sounds in Chinese that don't exist in English. They may mistake "n" sounds before the "ga" suffix which is quite common. The word "ga" is used as a measure word for most nouns. There's no real equivalent in English. Basically you have to use a unit word like you would in science class. You can't just say "10" you have to say "10 centimeters". The point is "ga" is the most common measure word from my understanding.

FYI in Pinyin it's Na Ge and Zhe Ge because the e makes an a sound. Not that anyone cares LOL

They are miserable and hate filled and just make stuff up to justify it and to make others miserable and hate filled too.

I lived and worked in China a decade ago, and as mentioned, it's used all the time. It's not unusual to hear 3-4 back to back in a conversation, "na ge, na ge, na ge....". There were a few African American expats in our team over there, but they weren't ever offended.

This incident reminds me of that teacher who was fired or almost fired for saying *****rdly.

Neighbor's custom license plate says "Negar". Has been that for many years. It's her legal name of Persian origin. Someone recently contacted DMV and complained that the word is a sly attempt at saying "******".

Neighbor had to go thru untold hoops to get it reinstated. No onus on the complainant to demonstrate that the plate is racist, they just logged a complaint and it was all on my neighbor to prove otherwise.

This can be a stupid country at times.

If anybody ever wondered how in East Germany one- third of people were snitching to the Stasi on the rest of the population. now you see how easily it happened there and how easily it could happen here. Same with cultural revolution imo.

Some places have an accent that pronounce Na Ge as "Nei ge" which ends up getting heard as ni*ga.
Now, certain parts of Beijing add a hard -er suffix to this. Then you get Na Ger which sounds like ni**ger.
Also Texags doesn't work well with Chinese.
Now, one might as what the term for nig*a is in Mandarin, well thats "black devil" or "Black colored dirt (barbaric) people". It's pretty common and used in passing conversation when refering to black people in general.
For white looking people it's "European devil". Hispanics just get lumped in with Meixcans and they called them "Always (the) tardy (one)". They aren't really insults though, I can think of a dozen ways to insult people in much worse methods.

This is hilarious to me. Chinese constantly dropping the n-bomb instead of "umm". Anyone offended by this needs to re-think their life. The only thing funnier would be if they said some form of "honky" instead.

Those lily white students are so brave and oppressed.

I had parents upset with me when I taught The Wife of Bath tale for the use of the see you next tuesday word and *****rdly but would not listen to rap music in class because it sucks for the most part.

I told them my job was to teach literature and vocabulary. The bigger their knowledge base and vocabulary, the more jobs open up for them.


Fortunately I had an administration that backed me up because my TAKS scores spoke for themselves. As the sole HS English teacher, I made their school look good.

Isn't this the very same fine intellectual establishment that Aunt Becky is now going to jail for in regards to bribing the school to get admissions for her kids?

Maybe we should accept more bribery if it means kids getting offended by foreign language pronunciation are left out of college.
