Of course they're blinded to the truth. All they see is Orange man bad.

Maybe since it became a non-issue with Trump.
Arguably not when the other party is pushing economic destruction and socialism. Clinton wasn't even half bad as President. Personal conduct was a write-off, though.GoneGirl said:
Reagan's divorce was seen as a major issue when he was running for president. Once we had a divorced and remarried president, a twice divorced and three times married one wasn't important.
Now that we've had a draft-dodging president, does it matter if we have another?
Bill Clinton?Quote:

Clinton was actually the first and only draft dodging president. Trump got deferments and a medical exemption. Clinton fled overseas to study.GoneGirl said:

What that war did to the American pysche and in its lopsided application of the burden is just horrendous. LBJ and McNamara should have been forced to man the last attack on North Vietnam -- the more hopeless, the better.Quote:
....dodging the draft was just that, any way to stay out of Vietnam.
....those who went over seas to Canada rather than get drafted had to apply for amnesty to stay out of jail but still were law breakers. Clinton avoided the draft legally.
Clinton dodged the draft, so did Trump, and so did Bush by going into the guard which was super difficult to get into unless you were a politician son. Most that had the political means, dodged the draft.
That's not true. My sister's boyfriend (child of divorce and poor as a church mouse) graduated college in 1968 and he entered the National Guard immediately.Quote:

Please don't insult enlisted men by saying he enlisted. He was what the enlisted call a Direct Input, Limited Duty Officer. And yes, the acronym is intentional.jja79 said:
Hunter Biden didn't avoid military service. He enlisted. Of course he got kicked out for doing cocaine.

He may have had a college degree but he was a pretty pitiful physical specimen. Tall, skinny, huge feet and the athletic prowess of today's soy boy. I was pretty young and don't remember how he got into the guard but I do know he didn't have any political power influence other than his mother was a WAC during WWII.Ubitag said:Respectfully disagree, it was super hard for the average Guy to join the guard. A college degree in 68 was not the norm for most of the applicants.aggiehawg said:That's not true. The guard was flooded with applicants during that war, they either cherry picked like your sister's boyfriend who had a college degree or Was influenced by politicians.
For those wondering, the guard was not called into active overseas duty back then.
Same with the Coast Guard..flooded with applicants and they cherry picked.
DAMN - that had to be a tough row to hoe for Joe. Double major in two ball-busting subjects. I'm impressed!Quote:
. . . he chose to focus on his double-major in history and political science instead,

The NM Air National Guard was called to active duty during the Vietnam War, flying F-100s. I met several of their VN "veterans" when I was a 2Lt wx weenie at Cannon AFB in the early 70's. The NM ANG used our nearby Melrose Bombing Range and were frequent visitors to Cannon.Quote:

In January 1968, the group was activated as a result of the Pueblo Crisis, and in June of that year the 188th Tactical Fighter Squadron and approximately 250 maintenance and support personnel were deployed to Tuy Hoa Air Base, Vietnam. Remaining group members were assigned to various bases in South Korea. The unit flew over 6000 combat sorties in the F-100C Super Sabre and amassed over 630 medals and decorations before release from federal active duty in June 1969. Captain Michael Adams was killed in action and Major Bobby Neeld and First Lieutenant Mitchell Lane are listed as missing in action. The unit received the USAF Outstanding Unit Award with a bronze "V" for valor.
