I'm guessing Norman has a democrat mayor because of OU. Oklahoma is the reddest state in the country. Even their democrats had to know this wouldn't fly with them. She must be a true believer willing to fall on her sword.

You guess right. Norman is very blue because of OU. Interesting side note - the petition gatherers and members of the group calling for the recall have been harassed a lot by young college age people. Recently a car full of them got caught doing it on cell phone video and then tried to lie about it to the cops and media. They claimed the petition group was harassing THEM

And yes, the local media made a big deal about it. But then the cops released the cell phone video showing it was the kids fault and they recanted their story.

Another side note - a few years ago the law abiding citizens of Norman voted in favor of a small tax assessment that was SPECIFICALLY designed to INCREASE police funding, INCLUDING funds for hiring additional police officers. The stupid town council members and Mayor had conveniently forgotten that.

The recall petition organizers used that voter approved tax assessment to fund the police as the cornerstone of their grievances. A very smart move. I hope they are successful, but I say again - Norman is very Blue and the college age crowd hold a lot of sway in what goes on in Norman.

A crowd that really, outside an exemption for military and service of some kind, shouldn't have the vote. They are not contributing to society yet as a rule.

That's unfortunate. I lived in Moore for a while. My wife got her Master's from OU. We liked the area except for the 3.2 beer law.

If so, he's like 6'4" and played TE at Stanford. Terrible policy positions and generally a liar but he's not a small dude.

We moved here when I retired from the AF in 1991 for two reasons. My FIL was a Boeing engineer and the last weapons system he worked on was AWACS. My in-laws moved here in Jan 1977 when the very first AWACS was delivered to the AF at Tinker AFB. They liked it here (in-laws are from Wichita), so my FIL stayed on as an AWACS tech rep here until he retired here in 1983. My wife is an only child and my parents had both passed, so moving near my in-laws made sense.

The second reason made even more sense - there's over 600 weather related jobs in the Norman area. I got on with NWS at the NEXRAD Radar Ops Center and had an enjoyable and (to me anyway) fascinating second career for 17 years. Our daughter ended up marrying an AWACS guy (a GIB weapons controller), but he left AWACS for an acquisition job and they moved to Wright-Pat.
