Asking the question here because i have attempted to contact Texags directly and have not received a response.

Does Texags not have the ability to delete a users profile/previous posts? Wouldn't GDPR require that if an indvidual requested their data be deleted they would have to comply? What about a compromise, allow the user to change their name to something more anonymous?

nothing, but after 15 plus years of texags posts its difficult to know what i wrote/what i was thinking and how will be judged in the future. When i was being stupid on here during my college days i had nothing to lose, now that im older and have a family/career, the risk/reward isnt the same. It would be nice to do a clean sweep, let the past be in the past..

is there a reason why texags keeps posts infinitely? Seems like a rolling 2 years would be ideal.

If any user here is located in the European Economic Area it absolutely applies.

Spoiler alert: there are such users

What is GDPR?

GDPR does not apply to US based companies not actively soliciting EU subscribers.

GDPR is an EU only regulation and other than the random Aggie who signs on overseas, TexAgs is not required to comply as all of their data is in the US (assuming they use a US based cloud service or host their own servers) and only do business in the US.

If TexAgs was to start selling their platform software to overseas entities they may have to comply if they host but they might just set it up to allow the licensee to host the software in the EU. Only those sites would have to comply with your initial question of a:

Right to be forgotten.

I would hope that Texags, if you deleted your account, would attempt to at least anonymize you're profile by changing your username or having deleted accounts usernames randomizes per thread and no longer searchable at the profile level.

This would allow the threads to keep all of the conversations without anyone being able to identify a user except on a single thread if they put identifiable info about themselves there.

I have no idea what Texags is doing in this regard but given the current climate, they should put a few man hours into this.

I think it's cool that I can look up posts that I make 15+ years ago and have threads that span years. Don't get rid of that.
plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose

I rather doubt anyone here is either important enough or interesting enough to be in much danger.

We may not have the EU's right to be forgotten, but I suspect the vast majority of us already are.

You can always go back and edit old post. Or ditch the old username and start over. Not quite the same but it might help.

Also do your best to harden yourself as a target.

Hey don't worry about what you wrote fifteen years ago we won't judge, we might laugh at you, but no judging.

Now we have no control over the cancel culture idiots, so you are on your own there.

GDPR is not an issue, but CCPA may be an issue.

It's really only an issue if you've put personal info out there, or have it linked to your Aggie ID. Ooops

This. We obviously have California users and if they request to for their information to be deleted I would be curious to know how TA will handle that.

We've had to create processes to do this at my employer so assume TA does as well.

Pretty sure you can go and delete your posts individually.

If there is something you are worried you posted is there a reason TexAgs should do the work of cleaning up your own posts?

TA sells space for advertisers and they need to create a process to block those advertisers from tracking California consumers who opted Do Not Sell.

Yep, I've had 2 calls this week about our company's CCPA compliance. My team actually manages the tag blocking for CA customers that opted to Do Not Sell

actually you cant, and this post is a good reason why... once someone quotes your post, you cant edit the quote

Someone did this recently. Changed to unknown something or another and wiped the account after they had scrubbed some posting history.

Well, as far as I know there is no "do not sell" option.

I've been browsing from California. Where is the opt out?

It's rare Texags, or anyone, stumbles into my domain. CCPA, DPPA, GDPR, FCRA, etc.

Not just that, but I find there's a lot of 'wisdom' available from Outdoors Forum posts going back many years now. OB really does 'know' things.

It's amazing how searching on a particular subject and restricting it to site:texags.com pulls up some great stuff from quite a few years ago.

Now, F16 has a lot of posts with a shelf life, as do probably the posts in most of the sports boards, but Outdoors posts are something I'd hate to lose, not to mention the classic 'Houston we've got a problem' in the Business board.
