I have to ask this, why does understanding the laws of God from the perspective of the Catholic church always end up in a trial type situation?

I'm not a Christian, but I've always noticed that Catholics have some type of legalistic approach and I was wondering if others found that to be the case.

I thought I was ok as long as I didn't act on the desire to dry hump.

It's normal to have the desire for physical intimacy, but to dwell on or act on it outside of the marriage relationship is wrong.

So what other natural actions that are PURELY a result of humans being animals does the church call a sin? Is hunger a sin? What about urinating when you feel like it?

You know, kind of like breathing. Just have some sex, move on with your day. That is not really lusting, why would that be wrong?

I know you're not looking for real answers, but think about it this way.

Most good things can be misused in a way that makes them harmful to us.

There is nothing wrong with alcohol, but abuse of alcohol leads to misery. (Just go to an AA meeting and ask around.)

There is nothing wrong with food, but gluttony leads to obesity and all sorts of health problems.

Similarly, casual sex leads to all sorts of problems. It can lead to disease (even fatal disease) and unwanted pregnancy. Unwanted pregnancy leads to all kinds of societal problems. Casual sex also is a pale imitation of something more meaningful. You aren't a monkey.

I had lots and lots of casual sex before marriage. Looking back, I realize I harmed myself.

God's instructions on sex are not to restrict you. The rules are to make you happier and more fulfilled.
