Great book: "90 Minutes in Heaven"
Pastor gets killed in a car wreck, goes to heaven, and sees friends and relatives who died years before. Then he comes back to life 90 minutes later after another pastor prays for him at scene of the accident. Pictures of the car wreck are in the book....he went through dozens of surgeries....
Here's a short video clip: http://www.90minutesinheaven.com/

I believe that God could do it, but I don't believe this guy at all. I don’t believe that he was truly dead. Call me a doubting Thomas on this one..

The problem with "I died and came back" anecdotes is that the stories are inconsistent.

Some feel comfort and a bright light.

Some see Jesus and such.

Some go to Hell.

Each on seems a bit different so using them to bolster doctrine is, at least to me, suspect.

In the book he said he met one of his childhood friends by the name of Mike Wood, who had died 20 years before in a car wreck when he was 19. Mike had invited him to Sunday School and was influencial in Don becoming a Christian.

Mike had received an athletic scholarship to LSU when he was killed. It was the most painful experience Don had in his life until that time. At the funeral he wondered if he would ever stop crying and wondered "why God had taken such a dedicated disciple. Through the years since then, I had never been able to forget the loss. Now I saw Mike in heaven." He said the joy he experienced in being reunited with family and friends wiped out all questions about how they each died on earth.

Former heavyweight boxing champion George Foreman had a near-death experience in 1977. But instead of seeing heaven, he went to "a dark, terrifying place." When he came back to life, he became a Christian. I've interviewed him and he says that he's thought about that place every day for the last 30 years. Before his experience, he was filled with hate and "didn't believe in religion." Now he's a pastor and evangelist. His book, which describes his experience in detail, is scheduled to be in bookstores around Christmas.

I met George Forman at Deerbrook Mall in Humble in the early nineties when I was in High School. He was a very nice guy and talked to me and my friend for 10 minutes before his wife dragged him away.

A few years later I saw Rudy T in Houston and said hi to him. He told me to **** Off and Ive never been able to watch the Rockets since.

Those are my two celebrity close encounters. One very positive and one very negative. Maybe Rudy T needs a "near death" episode

Well, if I ever meet George Foreman, I will certainly grill him about his experience.

I actually heard this guy come and talk in our church one night. Several of our congregation members had read his book, and so they invited him to come and speak.

He speaks really well, and (at least I thought) really de-emphasized the "in heaven" experience, although he talked some about it, because that's what people expected. He mainly talked about his life before and after and about his recovery experience, and his testimony about how God used the experience to change him and those involved was really powerful.

I wonder who the first person will be to die and see the FSM and then come back.

"Life after Life", and "To Hell and Back" are two great books to read on NDE's. Eyewitness accounts of heaven and Jesus, and the flip side with the demons. Lives changed for the better when they recover. Amazing stuff.

I read it and see no reason why the man's story isn't true.

He does have testimony that he was clinically dead according to the paramedics.

I wonder what Buddhist, Taoist, Hindu, and Islamic near death experience are like? I can only assume all bad, and those that come back quickly convert to Christianity.

quote:
I can only assume all bad, and those that come back quickly convert to Christianity.

George Foreman had looked into several religions and rejected them all. He believed that a God existed, but "didn't want anything to do with religion." He thought Christianity was for little old ladies and hated "all those pitiful old songs they sing."

After his death experience and going to the "dark terrifying place" he came back to life in his dressing room. Then had a vision of his hands bleeding and thorns on his head making him bleed. He said he knew then which was the right religion.

His conversion to Christianity was literally a 180--night to day, from filled with hate to filled with love. All his hate was flushed out of him. He's been telling his story for nearly 30 years now, all over the world.

Went and bought the book last night after reading this post. I have absolutely no reason to not believe Don Piper. It rings true.
