I find this question is rarely discussed...

Do you think Jesus knew his special relationship to the Father all along? At what point do you think he became "aware" of who he was? Or, do you think he always knew?

Discuss.

as a sign of things to come, he probably didn't defend himself when dealing with childhood bullies.

I think Mary & Joseph probably let him know early on who He was - kind of like the mother in Terminator 2

Seriously though, I think he would have excelled at school and religious classes and just "got it" more than others.

Not much is told us about Jesus' early years. Without a doubt he followed the normal development pattern of a baby, learning to walk and talk and so on, followed by a childhood among a family that protected and nurtured him.

We can speculate that his sinless nature caused him to be especially diligent regarding religious training and behavioral development.

We know that Mary and Joseph were aware of his unique status, as were Zacharias and Elisabeth, the parents of John the Baptist.

"And the child grew, and waxed (became) strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon him." Luke 2:40.

Thanks for the reply, conver2sations ;-)

We also know that Jesus' family thought he was out of his mind at one point... so maybe they weren't 100% sure he was who he is.

This guy thinks he went to India

I had heard that before. And there are probably more reliable people who think that - this is just the first result from Google.

It's all speculation really, but I don't see why his identity would have to be revealed to himself. I would think he always knew because he is eternal.

He certainly knew at 12 when Mary and Joseph lost him for 3 days, and found him preaching in "His Father's house"...

texasag73,

I totally feel you there. One of the most self-authenticating things (to me) about the Bible as a whole is the great number of "little coincidences", or things that point to/parallel/foreshadow something else. The way it all fits together really speaks for the authenticity and inspiration of the Bible.

Aggiebryan - You are correct - Those things are called "types". I've always been fascinated by the fact that Jesus was born in Bethlehem, which means "House of Bread", and that He was placed in a feeding trough called a manger when He was born. Later, He announced that He was the Bread of Life, and we should feed on Him in John 6.

He also grew up using a hammer, wood, and nails to make a living. Later on, those same things were used to make his death. Coincidence, or a divine plan?

Muster,

How is it similar to the Da Vinci Code? I haven't read the book yet.

The only thing we know about Jesus childhood is that he grew from Grace to Grace. There are lots of interpretations of this. The one thing we know is that he didn't have have a full realization of who he was. I don't think he fully knew until he fasted for 40 days, then he realized his role in God's plan.

Mary and Joseph probably taught him the scriptures, but it is plain that even Mary didn't know who he was or what role he would fill. Keep in mind the Messiah to Jews was a great leader who would free Israel from bondage. They didn't realize that he had come to free them from the bondage of sin.

Here's a book about Jesus's childhood

On a more serious note, even though this book is a comedy, it's actually quite touching. It's also not sacreligious either, which is impressive considering how easy it would be to have gone that route.

I have read the Da Vinci Code twice and I still don't know what you are talking about.

I was being sarcastic with the fact that a poster had made the claim that proof of the authenticity of the bible was given as:

"the great number of "little coincidences", or things that point to/parallel/foreshadow something else. The way it all fits together"

Which could be said for any well written book.

Okay,

Sarcasm goes way over my head sometimes.

I can see how my comment might have come across that way... but you have to keep in mind that the Bible is made up of 65ish books, written over the course of 700-800 years. Yet, as a whole it still manages to be considered a "well written book" (by you, indirectly!).

Also, I am in no way stating that the proof of the Bible's authenticity is because of its great number of "types"... I believe that the only "proof" of the Bible comes in the God-given grace to believe in what it says. It's just that, in the face of recent accusations about the Bible's historical accuracy and questionable canon (most of which are overblown), it is comforting for me to see the ways in which it all fits together.

Thanks for your response, though, I needed to clarify my point.
