I am definitely sympathetic to his opinion, but I also think there is a danger of discounting all the truth, goodness and beauty that has developed over that same time. There are so many good things flowing out of the church these days that I refuse to run around thinking it's all execrable. Because it manifestly is not. Now, I will agree that there's not much to be said for what comes out of the Vatican or some bishops councils/conferences, but that's a small part of the one, holy, Catholic and apostolic church.

I also refuse to believe the Church is doomed. To do so is to call Jesus a liar. I won't accept that.

But more specifically, how does one not fully assent to an ecumenical council and then turn around and accuse people of being Protestant? That seems like blatant hypocrisy. What if I decide that the Council of Trent doesn't check all the boxes it should check? Can I just dismiss it?

There can never be a demise of the Church Christ founded because that's what he promised, but there has absolutely been a diminishment and real damage done by modernists and predatory homosexual prelates and priests.
