I released a book last month titled The Daddy Essays.

It contains 50 some odd essays about my fatherhood journey, which includes the death of a child, special needs parenting, and how those struggles have helped my find greater perspective in parenthood. There is heartache, but the essays also express lots of gratitude and humor for my experience as a dad and the things and people that have shaped my outlook as a father - so of course it covers faith topics as well.

I am posting about it here because some churches and ministries have been working with me to make it a resource for their work. My initial motivation for the book was a selfish one - I wanted my kids to have these stories collected for memories and reflection as they go through their own journeys.

But as others have read it and I have heard how it is impacted them, I am discovering its real purpose is to help others.

Some are using it in grief counseling, which warms my heart, but it's scope is really broader. There are perspectives you gain as a bereaved parent that all parents can benefit from and I hope this book conveys some of those for both dads and moms.

Others are using it in men's ministry programs. Just this morning I have dropped off books to a local ministry, shipped to books to a ministry, and send some to an incarcerated mens program.

I'm working with these programs to provide them books at cost and the thought occured to me that some of the posters here are likely to be involved in such groups. Because of that, I wanted to share some information about the book and open the door to other ministry programs if they think the book would be a fit for their work.

If that applies to you, I hope you will contact me with your questions and that we can get you copies at cost to add to your resources. My e-mail is adventure at okieschool dot org (not com).

It's also free on Kindle Unlimited if you are subscribed to that service, so you can check the full book out at no cost. The link also has more info and reviews to help you see if it is a fit.
