Remember this American, Veteran, Priest, and possibly one day a Canonized Saint. Recently ran across the story of Fr Emil Kapaun, the most decorated chaplain in US military history:



Above, short version. Below, long version with interviews of servicemen who served with Fr Kapaun, lived with him in the POW camp, and who credit being alive because of his ministry. Intermixed with those accounts, is the reading of his citation when he was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.



I am not ashamed to admit the story of this amazing man had me in tears. His last act, as witnessed by his fellow captives as they carried him away to his death, was to bless his captors with the words of Christ in Luke 23:34, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing".
