I had never heard this story before of Buzz Aldrin participating in Communion while on the moon. Awesome.

Fitting since Jesus is LORD of the heavens and the Earth.

I hope he reimbursed the government for that extra weight.

I thought this was rather common knowledge or at least old news. I knew this factoid as a kid and I'm many years removed from being a kid.

NASA certainly hoped to keep it low key due to the stir caused by the reading from Genesis that was part of the Christmas Eve TV broadcast during the Apollo 8 mission. Madeline Murray O'Hare sued NASA over what the crew decided fit the NASA directive. "Say something appropriate."

With regard to Apollo 8, I once read where Bill Anders (a devout Roman Catholic) wasn't very happy about reading from a King James bible (at the insistence of the commander, Frank Borman) ...

Not sure why Ms O'Hare would get so upset about Buzz engaging in a merely symbolic ritual on the moon.
