8 The Torah of Adonai is perfect,
restoring the soul.
The testimony of Adonai is trustworthy,
making the simple wise.
9 The precepts of Adonai are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The mitzvot of Adonai are pure,
giving light to the eyes.

I really like how the KJV translates the first line - The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul.

The Torah converts the soul...Amen! The Torah gives joy. The Torah gives light.

v11 - They are more desirable than gold,
yes, more than much pure gold!
They are sweeter than honey
and drippings of the honeycomb.

If only people would think this of God's Torah.

So heres my problem, I keep falling short. I dont keep the law perfectly. If I want to acheive salvation based on my ability to keep the law, its a lost cause.

The Law is not given for the purpose of earning salvation, but it's given for the purpose of sanctification in your daily life. So why don't you follow the Law for your sanctification as the bible directs?

I think Win At Life views the purpose of the law in accordance with historic Christianity. He only differs in what the law is. Moral directions plus dietary, customary, priestly, judicial laws as well?

For whoever finds me finds life
and obtains favor from Adonai.
But whoever fails to find me harms his life
all who hate me love death." Proverbs 8:35-36

Proverbs 8 - the personification of Torah.

What did the Messiah say to the lawyer when asked about eternal life (finds life and obtains favor from Adonai?

Now a certain Torah lawyer stood up to entrap Yeshua, saying, "Teacher, what should I do to gain eternal life?"
26 Then Yeshua said to him, "What has been written in the Torah? How do you read it?"
27 And he replied, "You shall love Adonai your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself."
28 Yeshua said to him, "You have answered correctly. Do this and you will live." Luke 10:25-28

I'm not exactly sure what to make of your statement. But first off, the bible never separates the Law into moral laws, verses customary law, verses any other category. These are man-made distinctions. All the Torah (law) is just given as-is with no such categories.

Secondly, my view on the purpose of the Law is what scripture tells us it is.

Hebrews 10:3-4 "But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins year by year. For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

The Law is not for the purpose of salvation from the penalty of sin. The purpose of the Law is for our sanctification.

Leviticus 20:8 You shall keep My statutes and practice them; I am the Lord who sanctifies you.

Ezekiel 20:12 "Also I gave them My sabbaths to be a sign between Me and them, that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them."

Ezekiel 20:20 "Sanctify My sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between Me and you, that you may know that I am the Lord your God."

John 17:19 "Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth."

Romans 6:19 "I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification."

1 Thessalonians 4:2-4 "For you know what commandments we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification"

1 Thessalonians 4:7 "For God has not called us for the purpose of impurity, but in sanctification."
