Gay Marriage is the Law of the Land- And God Isn't Going to Freak Out About It

Since it appears the SSM threads aren't going to stop, I thought I'd share this one. And yes, Tampa, I know it's Ben Corey (thumbs down...heretic...yada, yada, yada).

Moments ago the US Supreme Court announced that marriage equality is now the law of the land. As our LGBTQ brothers and sisters celebrate civil equality under the law, undoubtedly there will be many conservative brothers and sisters who will warn of God's pending judgment against the United States.
It's not pending. This ruling IS judgment against the United States.

Oh, so that's the new line? This could be interesting. I'll start: 9/11 was His judgement against the US.

Phew...seems we got off easy then if this is the result, rather than the cause of acid storms or rabies floods or whatever I was expecting.

People pretending to know the mind and judgments of God. Outstanding.

I recall seeing such amazing knowledge of the mind and judgments of God when I was in baptist churches, especially the fundamentalist sort. I think they have a special red phone that gives them insider information.

It's not new, dear brother, but as old as the Holy Writ. I pray you heed it instead of mocking. Your apathetic nature and willingness to establish a holy kingdom completely removed from the world will not prevent the searcher of hearts from ruling both.

It's not new, dear brother, but as old as the Holy Writ. I pray you heed it instead of mocking. Your apathetic nature and willingness to establish two kingdoms will not prevent the searcher of hearts from ruling both.
You are presuming to know the mind of God, and you declare that this IS a judgment. I'm mocking the presumption that you know with certainty God's mind. It's like me saying 9/11 is His judgment. It's like saying Chris Kyle's murder was His judgment against Kyle. Do you ascribe every negative thing in life to His judgment?

As for the two kingdoms, there are two. I belong to His Kingdom, which is not of this world. The kingdoms of this world belong to the one who tempted Christ with them. And it's not apathy that I'm showing. I just don't put my faith in the powers and principalities of this world. For some reason, far too many Christians do though.

You were also born and so a citizen of the other kingdom, whether you acknowledge that fact or not. Those powers and principalities should rule justly (Ps. 2:10-12). You are apathetic how they should rule.

And I only know what I know about God's mind if he graciously reveals it. Disagree by appealing to that revelation instead of mocking.

If God was ever going to cast judgment against the the thing we call the united States, it would have surely been condemned for its sins within the first 150 years of its existence. What is a little gay marriage compared to genocide, theft, and slavery?

Christ was also born here and a "citizen" of the other kingdom. I don't see much political advocacy coming from Him, or His disciples. I don't recall seeing Christ advising Caesar on how to run his kingdom. Was He apathetic? Of course not. It's not apathy. How they rule has no bearing on how I live or treat others. I will live according to His will, no matter what laws are passed. I will love others and minister to them, regardless of what laws will pass.

So He graciously revealed to you that this ruling was His judgment? Please elaborate. I'd love to hear more about this revelation.

Exactly. We've committed genocide. Enslaved a race of people. Conducted experiments on living human beings. Been repressive towards women and minority groups. Have been warmongering from the beginning. Rounded up innocent people and put them in camps because their ancestors came from another part of the globe. All of these had actual adverse impacts on others, but no, it's Bob and Steve getting a permission slip from the government that's going to be the final straw.

Consider the grace that God gives his children to not live their life with a debased mind, but seek his face daily.

Ps. 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor standeth in the way of sinners,
nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord;
and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

Now consider the judgment of God against those who do not glorify God.

Rom. 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Chuck it looks to me that you are conflating words about individuals with a supposed blanket judgment against an entire nation of humans. The verses you quotes say nothing about entire political entities. Please clarify.

Oh, it was just cherry picking verses? Thanks. You realize that those things listed were already occurring well before the SSM ruling, right? So, was it not His judgment until the SSM ruling?

quote:
God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful;
Hmm, so His judgment started when America was created? America has been defined by wickedness, greed, envy, murder, deceit, malice, arrogance, boastful, inventors of evil, etc. throughout its history. So was the creation of America part of His judgment?

The principle remains whether it be individuals, families, or nations.

Is. 63:17 O Lord, why hast thou made us to err from thy ways,
and hardened our heart from thy fear?
Return for thy servants' sake,
the tribes of thine inheritance.

What a ridiculous title to an article. Did a teenage girl write that? Journalism is terrible now.

God may not freak out but this guy will if you disagree with him.

No, I don't believe he will. He regularly engages others that disagree with him in the comments section, and I don't recall seeing him "freak out". All he's doing in the article is pointing out the absurdity of the claims that this SSM ruling will bring down fire from Heaven, because it requires one ignore the evils that dwarf this ruling and are found throughout American history.

Sounds like basically the entirety of American history. So, was the creation of America God's judgment on man?

It's really bad theology too. It suggests God can freak out, which he can't.
