Appreciate the plug, but odds are it's not me you're following on Twitter.

I've "tweeted" exactly 13 times, and I think 12 of those were along the lines of "Hey, how does this Twitter thing work?"

I'm working on it though. @recompress

My apologies, there is another individual named @skubalon on twitter that frequently tweets about Christianity.

I assumed you were one in the same.

No apologies needed - an understandable mistake. "Skubalon" (or also "skubala" is a Greek biblical term and is used only once in the Bible.

Paul used the term to describe the value of all things in his life apart from Christ. See Philippians 3:8.

The word is most often translated as rubbish, waste, refuse, etc., although I'm of the opinion that it has a far stronger, vulgar and more graphic meaning that we're just too PC these days to print in the Bible... but this meaning hits closer to what I think Paul was driving at in saying it. Vulgarity for the sake of vulgarity isn't a good thing (and the Bible says as much) but there are times when such language carries an appropriate message. In this case, Paul was being intentionally common, intentionally vulgar and intentionally low to appropriately describe the contrast between the value of Christ and everything else in his life.

I use this moniker as a reminder to myself of the value I place on "stuff", which includes among other things my often-times over-inflated opinion about my ideas.

I have started following @skubalon, BTW. Appreciate the pointer!

Our RCIA instructor liked to point out many things as "skubalon" during lessons...
