When did they start, and what's the story behind em from old to new army?

I have no idea of any of the story behind them but love the hell out of mine.

Last couple of times I visited with the Student Bonfire folks, many/most were wearing Chicken hats in the color of their pots. I was told by the then Senior Red Pots, that the color red was reserved for them and was jealously guarded. I might be wrong, but I believe that the same was true for Brown and Yellow.

Now that i think about it, they may have had patches attached to them as well, but I don't honestly remember what the patch was.

All this seemed to have started after I left A&M. '83

There's hats for Reds, Browns, Yellows, Buttpots, Greens, and Chiefs. I also think OC? Has a separate hat for their chiefs/yellows. Don't really know about that just know I've seen a black hat with a white cord running around.

Some of the Reds have the patch and the yellows/buttpots from the centerpole crew get the patch as well I believe. It says burning desire and has the year on it if I'm not mistaken.

I never got a buttpot one from the chicken. Mine actually says Aggie Bonfire on it but it's basically the same hat.

Who wants to pick up and mail one of these for an old dead?

Last semester they had some rando buy a red hat, so unless you have some sort of proof, they won't sell you one.

Basically a "who do you know here" kind of thing.

I hear you. I'll drag some poor red pot over the next time I'm in B-CS. I've gone 35 years without one, I can wait a bit longer.

What's the story behind Chicken Jockey?

I'm part of a new crew at bonfire, and I wanted to order the white hats for my chiefs and me. How do we do that? Is there a website?

It's been almost ten years since I've been in the woods brother. I'd find a chief in one of the established crews and ask the humble question of how tf do I get a neat hat

It's a little dirty, but what can you expect from a Chicken Hat?

Hat colors are generally tied to positions in bonfire. White and maroon hats already have specific meanings so you probably won't be able to just "pick" those colors.
