I found the movie to be both entertaining and disturbing. The lead actor is a young Mayan man whose life is turned upside down when his village is attacked and everyone is either killed or tuned into captives to be taken back to the Mayan capital to be sacrificed. His wife and young son escape and are hiding in a sinkhole where they can't escape, while the Mayan father is led off in captivity. There are numerous scenes of violence, but they seem to show how Mayans lived and died at the whim of their masters. I saw a lot of Mel Gibson's direction and character development similar to what I saw in Braveheart. The cinemetography and the music was great. The final scene showing the arrival of the Spaniards cost the movie some credibility since the Mayan civilzation collapsed 300-400 years before the arrival of Columbus. Overall, I give it a B for action, character development, scenery, plot, and historical education.
