McConaughey is a bit of a pothead goofball (understatement) but I love this movie. Picked it up in the $5 bin at Target.

I agree it's very good and posted this a while back:

This movie is on USA right now.

I can’t believe a flick this scary is on weekend daytime network TV.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0264616/

“Frailty” is a really good, well-made, classic thriller/horror film, but any kid who would find a movie such as, for example, “E.T. the Extra-terrestrial” believable would be, IMHO, terrorized watching it.

Spoilers ahead:

The only other “recent” movie I can remember that chilled me like this one does was “Fallen,” where the detective played by Denzel Washington is tracking Azazel, a fallen angel who can take over people’s bodies by merely touching them.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119099/

The scene in “Fallen” where Azazel “runs” away from Denzel’s character’s pursuit by successively touching a series of passersby is the one that sticks with me most vividly.

Both these movies are certainly worth a viewing, but impressionable kids have no business sitting in front of their TV at home watching Bill Paxton ax murder folks in ”Frailty.”

The only good thing to be said about this movie being on TV is that the commercials break the tension.

Yeah, Paxton was very believable in his portrayal of the father and very successful in this, his directorial debut.

The kids were good too.

Heck, everybody was good....Luke Askew, Missy Crider.

Matthew McConaughey has yet to be better, IMHO.

The shot where he stands over a newly dug grave with shovel in hand and a really big tree filling the entire background is pretty cool.

Powers Boothe is always creepy, but he is well-cast against type in this movie and bongo boy gets to chew him up and spit him out.

It's is a really good horror/thriller/mystery and I'm sure a bunch of young kids got their eyes full of some disturbing, scary stuff while watching it on home TV last weekend.

Bill Paxton was also really good as a vampire in "Near Dark," but the scenes in that film are all shot so darkly (without much light) that you can't really appreciate him or, in fact, most of that entire movie.

You just couldn't make out much in many of the scenes, because everything was so dimly lit, exactly like in that otherwise excellent action flick, "Thirteen Warriors," starring Antonio Banderas.

Well, in "Frailty" you could sure tell what was going on and I thought it was truly chilling.

Gig 'em, FAST FRED '65.
