I was just listening to this album for the first time in a while and I was reminded about how truly brilliant it really is. Why is it so overlooked in the general public? I mean, "Immigrant Song", "Since I've Been Loving You", "Out On The Tiles", "Tangerine", "That's The Way", etc. are some of the greatest songs I've ever heard. It's a very diverse album too, which makes me like it even more. How can anyone not like Led Zeppelin III?

Aah yes, Zeppelin III

I remember you could spin a thing on the LP, and see different pictures show up in the holes on the cover.

Great record, underestimated by almost all the critics at the time I understand. They wanted "heavy", but Zep didn't care. Off to Bron-Y-Aur, where the black dogs roam!

Did you hear "That's The Way" on Almost Famous? To my knowledge, the only song Zep has allowed to be in a movie.

Hopefully, you buy the whole catalog. Don't go for the compelations. You know, buy Physical Graffiti. Best album ever.

I could go on, as resident Zep-head.

Agree good stuff.

I think I still somewhere have my cassette copy of III that I probably bought in 1985 or so.

Don't worry. I have been a HUGE Zeppelin fan for a long time. I guess I just hadn't listened to this album in a while and it was great to hear it in its entirety again. I have had the complete Zep catalog for well over a decade.

I know this song is not on III, (I think its on IV), but did anybody see a guy named Jeff Ward sing "Black Dog" on Karaoke night at Bullwinkles in '93? He was there every Wednesday, and you would have thought the crowd was at a rock concert when he stepped up to the mike. He was amazing.

"Immigrant Song" was in School of Rock.

On the DVD there is a hilarious extra where Jack Black is on stage, begging Led Zeppellin to let the filmmakers use the song in the film. The crowd roars and begs, also. It must have worked.

Tangerine is my favorite Zep song. Hands down.

"Out on the Tiles" may be the most underrated Zeppelin song. It never appears on any best of albums, I think it was ommitted from the original Boxed Set, it was rarely played in concert from what I understand, and is one of the few Zeppelin songs not to be used in a movie/commercial.

Out of all my Zep stuff on my iPod, Zep III material gets the most play. Superior blend of accoustic and hard rock.

In addition to the other tracks mentioned, I'm a big fan of "That's The Way."

Imagine if Led Zeppellin were starting today. They would have to appear on TRL.

Yeah, I'm an expert in live Zep. they played it twice that I know of, as spontaneous extra encores right before 3 came out, including the famous "Blueberry Hill" show.

If you love Zep and have everything they put out, you should really seek out some bootlegs, because live they had no peer, at least through 75.

Actually, very few Zeppelin songs have ever been used in movies/commercials. Besides "Immigrant Song" in School of Rock and "That's The Way" in Almost Famous as previously stated, "Rock and Roll" in the Cadillac commercials is the only other song I can think of that would fit into this category. Not a lot considering the size of their catalog.

And dan, how about hooking me up with some of those bootlegs?

Richard Linklater asked to use "Dazed and Confused" during the opening credits of, ironically enough, "Dazed and Confused". They said at the time they didn't sell their music to movies.

Funny, I think the replacement song "Sweet Emotion" by Aerosmith fits in perfectly.

TimAg is right, and some other the other posters reminded me of Tangerine in Almost Famous. I guess my point was also that Zep could license the hell out of their music, but it is very rarely done. Cameron Crowe is a friend of the band, so I can see how that happened. Same way with Crowe's Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

The intro to Out On The Tiles was commonly played at the beginning of Black Dog on Zep tours, and can be heard on How The West Was Won. BTW, the title is a Bonzo reference to "out on the town"...drinking of course.

IMHO I have to say Houses of The Holy was their most solid album. The Rain Song, D'yer Makr, Over the Hills and Far Away, Dancing Days, and the Ocean are just all solid tunes.

I'm not saying III sucked, I just can't say I like it more than Houses of the Holy

Juan- Houses is a great album, too. But I would probably have to go with Physical Graffiti as my favorite Zep album.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
The fact that they sold the rights to their music to be horribly misused in a freakin Cadillac commercial pretty much completely discredits the idiotic claims on here that they "really don't allow their songs in movies or tv shows much". It doesn't get much more pathetic than that.

in their defense, it did take them about 30 years to give in...

I assume it was solely a Page decision, and that JPJ and Plant are free from blame.

Don't forget that awful duo of Jimmy Page and Puff Daddy (back when he called himself that) on SNL, where they reworked Kashmir to one of Puffy's rap tunes... ugh.

Well, I've got a baby and no spare time, otherwise I would. But if you can figure out how to torrent, there are sites where you can download plent yof shows, and some great ones are still finding the light of day after 30+ years, like a perfect soundboard of Houston 77. Check out sites like The Traders Den or Dime a Dozen. (Don't have the links now, but I think they're thetradersden.org and dimeadozen.org)

Best ones to start with - anything from LA, any year. 77 was not a great year for them live, jimmy was really out of it, but the 6 shows they played there were all taped and are amazing. One of the menus on the DVD has a bootleg of the Song Remains The Same from the first night where Bonzo is going off. There are perfect quality recordings of the nearly 4 hour shows at Earl's Court that are great, and I'm partial to the Japanese tour of Sept 71 where they would do just about anything.

I have some bootleg cassettes from 67 or 68 recorded in a club in England. You can tell that they are still finding themselves. One time they have to start over because Plant didn't like the key, and another time Plant gets mad because they are too mellow and not getting into the music, and says, "Is there anybody here who is not on mandrakes?" (downers)

Some songs they don't really even sound so tight or good, but you get to hear the beginnings of that unique, unbelievable, incredible, headwagging, stomping, Zep sound.

I saw them twice in concert when I was in high school. When Page pulled out a fiddle bow on "Dazed and Confused" and started to use it, I went stark raving mad. It was the most unique, freaky, erie, sound I had ever heard.

They truly were a once in a lifetime band.

The Beatles and Zep. My two favorite bands of all time.

Myself and 10 friends had tickets for the Superdome to see Zepplin, Plant's son died and the final two shows of the tour were cancelled including that one...

Tickets were $10...
