I have condemned Pat Boone for what he did to songs like Fats Domino's "Ain't That A Shame," Carl Perkins' "Blue Suede Shoes" and Little Richard's "Long Tall Sally."

So I'll give him props for a very good whistle on "Love Letters in the Sand."

When he opened his mouth and sang it was too often just hot air, but when he pursed up his lips to whistle it was cool.

Bing Crosby was a pretty great whistler.
A Steve Miller pop hit has a good whistle in it, but I can't remember which one. It may be synthesized?

Steve Miller's "The Joker" has a "wolf whistle" after he says "Some people call me Maurice," but I think that's done on a guitar.

It's right before he mentions "the pompitus of love."

Miller's "Jungle Love," is what came to mind 1st with the opening and closing. Tull's "Whistler" is a personal fave, but that's actually Anderson on flute meant to sound like a whistle.
