Friday Night Lights!

Rudy, Remember the Titans, and Hoosiers were GREAT movies, but too much fiction thanks to Hollywood! Friday Night Lights was almost all factual and it was about Texas high school football...what could be better than that?!?!

Hoop Dreams could be better than that. In fact, it is better than that.

ah...and Fever pitch, the original...though the Fenway scenes in the new one are nice.

FNL factual? Hmmmm.

While i enjoyed it, getting important things right, like Permian NOT playing for the state title that year, would have been nice. It is a far cry from factual.
The portrayal of Boobie was way off as well...he was completely written off by the staff and the team and came nowhere near the Dome that day....oh, wait...they didn't play there either.

I did enjoy the movie, but they Hollywooded it up big time...the sad thing is...they didn't have to.

Does Karate Kid count? If so that's mine.

If it ever gets made, "Balling the Jack" http://www.parentsurf.com/p/articles/mi_m1318/is_n8_v52/ai_20962288 will probably be my favorite. I'm really, really tempted to pick "Grand Prix". The original "Rollerball" was lots of fun. The brilliance of "Rocky" was ruined by "Rocky VI". So I guess I'll have to go with "Rudy".

There are only two legitimate contenders:

Ali - a great, and underrated film
Friday Night Lights

Very honorable mention: Raging Bull.
Hoosiers is good. The Sandlot is good. Rudy is good, but overrated. Hoop Dreams is great, although a documentary. I like Any Given Sunday, but thats a personal preference, and I dislike Oliver Stone, although I liked Nixon.

The vast majority of sports movies are terrible - including Remember the Titans, Badnews Bears, the whole lot of them. They don't hold up on repeat viewings.
