Soprano sax solo in "Mr. Bojangles". Odd that a sax would be in a country song, but it works.

Also, don't forgot the all-time classic "Back To The Hotel". ;-)

mmmmm...Candy Dulfer...saw her with Prince a few months back, she still looks great and rocked on sax!

I dig the solo in "The Gunner's Dream" by Pink Floyd off of The Final Cut. Also there's a ripping one in "The Dogs of War" from A Momentary Lapse of Reason. "Money" is still a classic solo, and for me it's still the un-perfectness of it that just fits so well.

Pick one by Maceo Parker when he was with James Brown.

He's on "Cold Sweat," "I Got You(I Feel Good)," "I Got The Feeling," etc.

Texan Clifford Scott from San Antonio played the very influential sax solo on Bill Doggett's "Honky Tonk." The well-known guitar solo is on Part 1, composer Scott blows his sax solo on Part 2. Scott played with Lionel Hampton for years and later was with Ray Charles.

The moody sax on The Viscount's "Harlem Nocturne" made that classic tune a girly show dance standard.

The sax solo on Carole King's song "One Fine Day" by The Chiffons rocks hard. It sounds just like the stuff that Clarence Clemons plays for Bruce, like on "Born To Run."

"Harden My Heart" by Quarterflash deserves a mention. That saxophonist was a chick.

Many of The Coasters' songs, like "Charlie Brown," had dynamite sax solos, probably all played by the same studio guy. I'll have to look him up.

King Curtis' subtle playing on Buddy Holly's "True Love Ways" is wonderful and Curtis' solo stuff like "Memphis Soul Stew" and "Soul Serenade" was very popular.

Jr. Walker was the definitive funky sax stud on his all-star stuff, like "Shotgun," "Pucker Up Buttercup" and "(I'm a) Roadrunner."

Those are some older examples of fine, seminal sax playing.

The sax solo on George Michaels' "Careless Whisper" is so good.

And Eagle member Glenn Frey's "You Belong To The City" has a sax setting the mood.

Gig 'em, FAST FRED '65.

That bit in The Lost Boys when they're at that rockin' gig and the muscley guy with the baby oil is singing that magic tune, and then he kicks into this crackin' sax solo, aw man, that's just, like, the top, man!

There is not sax in Make it til Monday. You are thinking of The Sun and the Sea, that indeed has a nice bit of sax. The song in general overcomes a really bad zeppelin riff in the firs 20-30 seconds.

Texags was onto something with this thread btw. Lots of sax feature in rock songs in the 2006-2009 period. The high point of which, in my opinion, was the solo in M83's 2007 hit Midnight City.
