Anybody watching this? I don't have HBO, but I've rented the DVDs. I'm about four episodes in so far. It's slow, but I'm starting to really get into the story lines.

So far, I guess I'd say it's a solid B with A potential.

Thoughts?

HBO showed all the first season episoded (three hour blocks) last week. That was the first I have seen. I thought it was a really good show and, in part, has stayed pretty accurate. Season premier, Sunday night, hooked me for the rest of the season. It's right up there with Carnivale.

I think it is already grade A. Just watch out for the language. Earmuffs!

I think they use some of the language just for the sake of saying it... (i.e. corks**k**s). Even Wu, who doesn't speak much English, says it repeatedly in one episode.

When it first started airing after the Sopranos last spring I tried to watch it. I gave it two or three episodes, but couldn't never really get into it.

Season 1 did start out slow, but it really picked up when Wild Bill was killed. The fight between Seth and Al the other night was pretty sweet. Quality show.

Did someone on this thread say the crapfast that was carnivale was good?

I did the same with Sopranos last season and kind of gave up on it. But I just started renting the DVDs last week because they always talk about how much they love it on the Ticket (sports radio in dallas). I'm 7 episodes in right now and I love it. It's a great show. I think the characters are really strong in it. Still no Sopranos, but very good.

i absolutely love deadwood, can't wait to start watching season 2.

I've seen a few episodes and really like it but Mrs. H.A. can't stand it, all because of the language. So I only watch it when she's not around.

The Cy Tolliver character is starting to ruin the show for me. He's just way too awkward.

Carnivale is spectacular.

Al needs to lighten up a bit. He's cranky all the time now. Last season, he was good for some humor as well. Still, I love the show. Jane kills me.

I thought the prostitute was doing a pretty good job of loosening Al up. I'm sure they'll use his health issue as a way to introduce a little more sympathy (and some comedy) for him. He's a great character - brutal as hell but there is just something you like about him.

I agree that they need to straighten Cy out a little. He's gone off the deep end.

Finished up the season a few days ago. I got my wisdom teeth out, so I got some quality watching time in.

Excellent show. I'm considering getting HBO so I can watch.

My wife even got into it and admitted about episode 10 or so that she liked Al.

My favorite character was also the most tragic... the preacher. That guy tore my heart out.

Al is like Tony Soprano or Vic Mackey. No matter what they do, you can't help but like them. Fascinating characters who make their respective shows.
