Known but not popular:

Better than Ezra - very, very, good live. The lead singer is about as talented as they come.

Cowboy Mouth - I've seen them, at the Woodlands, take a crowd that didn't really care about them and make them pay attention.

Pushmonkey - I think all who have been to a live show at least respect them.

My best, however, was Rockfest at the Dallas Motor Speedway. Although I have yet to see U2, I am ashamed to say. Would very much like to see Page and Plant also.

at the time i thought rockfest was the coolest thing ever...looking back it was overhyped, there were too many people, sets were too short, alot of the bands weren't that great, etc, etc. I prefer smaller, intimate venues/shows.

of course at the time I'd only been to maybe 5 concerts and now i've been to over a thousand.

That's probably true, about the overhype. The people you were with matter a lot, and we had a pretty easy logistical go of it. Aside from No Doubt, however, I think the bands were not that memorable..

Special mention for KISS. They do put on a fun show.

Collective Soul put on the best show of the day and I'll never forget Counting Crows doing "Daylight Fading" as the sun was setting. I don't like No Doubt, but they did put on a good show.

Train...yeah, I saw them at a buzzfest on a side stage a while back. They were good, but I didn't think they would be all over the radio like they have been in recent years.

I saw DMB (not really a fan) at a not publicized show in Austin (2000?)...they are good live. Lot of pot around too.

some of my favorites:

radiohead - both shows at the woodlands
ben folds and a piano - verizon (houston)
the shins - ridglea theater (ft worth)
the arcade fire - trees
queens of the stone age - stubb's
the white stripes - verizon (houston)
the walkmen - hailey's (denton)
interpol - both shows at gypsy tea room
secret machines - ica in london
yeah yeah yeahs - trees

my biggest regrets: missing beck/flaming lips and sigur ros - i didn't have any money.

Best concert hrm

White Zombie (La Sexorcisto Tour) Cotton Bowl, 93-94?

Pantera, Slayer, Morbid Angel, Smirnoff, 02? (Extreme Steel Tour)

Cannibal Corpse (the Bleeding tour) The Bomb Factory, er 97?

All were mayhem .. good times. Id have to say that the most mayhem was the White Zombie one, a muddy cotton bowl field with water cannons on stage .. it was a mess, then the clothes bonfire at the Extreme steel tour.

The best concert I've been to was Bocktoberfest last year. I don't really care for Kid Rock, but I met a few friends from high school over there and had a lot of fun. Kid Rock and Kenny Wayne Shepard put on a good show too. Best drunken weekend of my life.

RockFest was awesome ... Sugar Ray was hard rockin' then, Jewel was hot, Counting Crows sucked, No Doubt was pretty good, and Bush was peaking at the time.

System of a Down, Powerman 5000, Kid Rock, Korn and Metallica ... and then the Metallica make-good concert since Hetfield hurt himself while skateboarding.

Everclear when they played "Heroin Girl" - wow.

oh yeah, and every Toadies concert I ever went to was superb.

Audioslave at Verizon, and Korn the last time they were at Verizon in SA.

Robert Earl Keen when he plays his older tunes, and Roger Creager puts on a good live show.

In other news - I saw Dierks Bentley at the rodeo this evening - and he's got a few good songs not on the radio. Not too shabby.

Jewel..forgot about that, almost

I was about 20 feet from the stage during her set, and she was in fact very hot.

didn't care for bush, never really have. I know it's radio rock, so the standards are low, but their lyrics always struck me as especially terrible.

too bad sugar ray broke up, I guess because MM loves doing softball "interviews" for enertainment tv shows?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Collective Soul definitely tore it up that day at the TMS.

and what was the name of the band that played before Sugar Ray...when the female lead singer got all pissed or something and then started clicking her mouse on stage...?

best show I have seen is the Rolling Stones at the TMS in I think 1997. yeah, they're old, but they have it. close trailers are Jimmy Buffett (not real intsense, but dang it's fun) and Blue October.

Galactic - The Freezestyle Tour w/ the Triple Threat DJs - New Orleans, Contemporary Arts Center. This show freaking blew my mind. They played until 4 in the morning.

Widespread Panic - Any show at The Backyard in Austin. I think my favorite was with the NOrth Mississippi All Stars opening several years ago.

Robert Randolph - First time I ever saw him was opening for Karl Denson several years ago. Robert Randolph was still relatively unkown and stole the show.

I saw Better Than Ezra back in '96 or so, when they were popular and it was probably the worst show I've seen, maybe just a bad night for them.

Presidents of the United States of America - These guys were amazing live at a small venue.

Weezer - saw them open for No Doubt and both were very good.

DMB - I'm a huge fan.

Rob Zombie - saw him at a huge KROQ concert in L.A., Rob Zombie was one of the acts I didn't care about, but they rocked, amazing show... I was very surprised.

The Blue Nile at some dive in Houston. The band was awesome and the fans were really into it. For the encore they pretty much played the set a second time as they had run through all their songs. This concert was right after their second album. The one concert that is head and shoulders above all the rest.

Springsteen during The River tour was pretty good and I also caught Neil Young around that time and that was also a good one. Both played in pretty small venues, which was unusual for them.

Richard Hell & The Voidoids was also a good one. Probably in 1981 or 1982. Great band and this was after the second album.

The Cure in Austin after The Head On The Door was relaesed was pretty cool. Saw them again on the Kiss Me tour in Dallas and it was quite a bit different. Really had made that dreaded arena jump.

Been to sooo many concerts, it's hard to have a few top ones.

Tool at the Astro Arena circa 1998. WOW...most intense show I've ever been to.

Page & Plant, up there big time

Tom Petty on the Wildflowers tour, just rocked.

Audioslave @ the Woodlands, awesome live.

Sevendust @ Tattoo the Earth BADASS

Rush on the Vapor Trails tour, very tight and nice setlist

Allman Bros. @ the Back Yard in Austin

Steve Vai @ Numbers

Eric Johnson @ Hurricane Harry's (I got to hang with him and he was beyond cool)

Joe Satriani @ Verizon Wireless (WOW)

Dio @ the Woodlands, followed by Maiden. Talk about kick ass, that was greatness.

Dwight Yoakam @ the Hilton in Las Vegas. Great, great, great show, and we had awesome seats.

Pushmonkey back in their heyday, just because it was such a great time!!

Van Halen on the Balance tour at the Compaq Center

Black Sabbath with Pantera @ the Compaq Center (I've seen Sabbath many times and this was the BEST)

Eric Clapton @ the Compaq Center

Prince @ the Toyota Center

COC @ Fitzgerald's - I was drunk but Pepper kicked ASS

Zakk Wylde & Black Label Society @ Forgetta 'Bout It -- Earbleeding badassery in a small venue

King's X - just a phenomenal band, and so great live.

I've got dozens more I'm sure I'll think of later.
