How long do you want to ignore this user?
i've been playing the guitar for a while now and i'm finally starting to do some writing/recording (just for fun). i'm looking to get a bass guitar so i can add bass lines, so i thought i'd see if anyone has any good recommendations.

i'll probably just go with a 4-string and don't need anything too fancy. and i'd rather not sacrifice too much sound quality just to get a cheap bass. as a ballpark, i'd be interested in any basses that can be had for under $350.

thanks in advance for any suggestions.

They have pretty decent prices on almost everything you can buy. They also have a huge selection.

Check out a danelectro longhorn. Even though they are not high dollar, they are used by many pros. Just go to >danelectro.com<

Yamaha makes a good, cheap, 4 string electric bass. I've used one for years and you can usually pick one up pretty cheap even brand new.

Before you buy, what sound from the bass are you going for? Are there some certain songs that you like the sound of the bass guitar on?

See if you can find a used G&L L2000E.

It has active pickups. It can sound like a Fender Jazz, a Rickenbacher, or anything in between.

Designed by Leo Fender after he left Fender.

I had an active pickup bass for a few years until it was stolen......OUT OF THE CHURCH! Those punks had some nerve. Now I just have a regular old Fender 4 string bass. It is nice and keeps tune very very well(once the strings break in). The price was pretty cheap if I remember correctly, and the resale is probably decent.
