How long do you want to ignore this user?
Hi all. I'm looking for a good young adult fiction series from a female perspective to read with my 22 year old daughter.

The last series we read together started with a book called "Kiss of Deception". She picked it and loved it. And we had fun talking about it.

But now I have to pick the next series and am struggling with the choice. So I'm looking for suggestions that tie a young female protagonist in a story with some romance and adventure. A trilogy would probably be a good length.

I appreciate any and all suggestions.

Thanks!
Claude!

Terry Pratchett's Tiffany Aching books are great. Set in his Discworld series, they follow a young girl as she grows into power as a witch. Wonderful reads for anyone.

Older but I loved the Sabriel series by Garth Nix when I was younger.

Female lead that is a necromancer but it's a very interesting world.

Carol Goodman's Blythewood series (3 books) is very good, about a girl at a magical boarding school - it's fantasy but grounded in the real world of early 20th century America.
Blythewood Series at Amazon

Karen McManus One of Us is Lying trilogy is very good, contemporary mysteries about a group of teenagers (in the first book) who are trying to figure out who among them is a murderer.

If you or she hasn't read the original Mistborn trilogy, then you should. The first one, The Final Empire, is an S-Tier fantasy novel with one of my favorite heroines. Very well written character, flawed, not a marry-sue, and a great coming of age story built into a fantasy heist story with one of the most original and best magical systems in literature.

It is also a full trilogy with The Final Empire, The Well of Ascension, and The Hero of Ages.

Sanderson, the author, has also recently agreed to terms with Apple TV to adapt The Final Empire into a live action movie and has already finished the first draft of the script. It's also a great introduction to fantasy and Sanderson, if neither of yall have too much experience with either.

It isn't necessarily "YA", but flirts with that line between YA and full on adult novel. Sanderson is also a very clean author. If you end up reading it and enjoying them, he has another stand alone with two female PoV's that I love called Warbreaker.

Mistborn is great!

Also, if you haven't read "The Hunger Games" trilogy yet, it sounds like exactly what you're looking for.

Not a trilogy, but for a YA Star Wars book, I recommend Lost Stars. It is told from both the male and female perspective. Basically, two star crosses lovers who join opposite sides of the Rebellion.

A pretty big booktok person said it is very weird to her how a middle age Mormon man did such a good job writing the teenage version of herself in Vin

If you get deeper into his books and his universe Tress of the Emerald Sea is a slam dunk

A few questions:

What genre are you looking for?
Dystopian, contemporary, fantasy, science fiction, historical fiction, romance, paranormal, horror, etc?

What age range for the characters?
YA covers a lot of ground in terms of age ranges of characters. There's even New Adult which would be 18-25ish.

How much romance?
Does that need to be primary or secondary to the plot? Most YA is going to be "closed door" in terms of descriptions of sex and affection. Anything beyond making out is going to be alluded to or not actually described in detail.

I gave her some options mentioned here, plus one that I found on another site. She ended up choosing that one, and we are reading the Court of Thorns and Roses. Seems like a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, with some elements of Cinderella and the legend of King Arthur thrown in. And, of course, romance between a young woman and an immortal being.
