New survey seems to verify the obvious...long waits between seasons kills the viewing audience.

Common sense says "duh", and there's other variables that need to be taken into account for sure (perhaps the quality of the writing drops off and people just don't feel like tuning into the next season of a particular show). But just maybe the streamers will take notice now.

Hopefully. The production cycle they've established really sucks.

I did not watch Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul until the last ~18 mon ... watched on dvd from the library.

Same w/ Yellowstone... some station streamed all seasons... eventually watched them all.

Early adopter, I am not ( my iPhone is a pre-5g Xs model).

Not sure if it was mentioned in the article, but I find myself holding off on watching shows when they first come out b/c I really don't want to watch a season, fall in love with it and then have to wait 3 years for season 2. If enough people do that, like me, it tanks viewership early-on and the show gets cancelled before a season 2 even comes out.

I just got around to watching Pluribus this week and was hoping s2 would be right around a corner, only to later read that I still have a lot of waiting to do (although, i don't think it is quite as long as they were first suggesting).

Plus short seasons ... Netflix's "Leanne" was 16 episodes in its first season and just 10 episodes this second season, with a 13-month gap between seasons.

Tough to build a loyal audience when they can just binge your show in one or two nights and then have to wait more than a year for the next season.

Timely considering the Slow Horses thread. If you want to see how a show does this correctly, then watch that show. They are prompt with releasing new seasons and they are only 6-8 episodes. Everyone needs to copy them.

I don't know what you're talking about…I for one can't wait for season 3 of the last of us!

I'm not sure I'll be going back to Severance. Way too long of a wait, especially with the complex rabbit hole they seem to be taking it. I may wait until it's completely done and then watch

I'm stating the obvious, but a hard deadline can be very motivating. In the older network model, a show like ER had no choice but to get it done in time for the fall schedule. And they usually figured it out (at least for the first several years). Now these guys have a seemingly unlimited amount of time, which I would imagine makes it very difficult to make tough decisions.

Of course a hard deadline could lead to a worse product, or more likely the show runner just not signing with anyone that sets a deadline (Larry David likely would have told HBO to go f themselves if they told him he needed a new season every 12 months).

Don't blame you especially with this show. We will absolutely have to watch recaps before the next one. I should have before S2 but didn't.

i refuse to watch any show until it has at least 2 complete seasons released. No sense watching something that will never be finished.

yeah, I am behind the zeitgeist. but it is not like there is not a ****-ton backlog of stuff to watch in the interim.

You literally have to rewatch previous seasons to remember any of what happened whenever the next season starts 5 years later. Does that add to the viewership numbers of the show since you ended up having to watch seasons multiple times because of these ridiculous delays...?

Hell, ill have to rewatch the first handful of seasons of GOT leading up to the next book. A lot easier than rereading them all.

More than a year between seasons is dumb

I don't watch anything that isn't a limited series. I just don't care that much.

George and Rothfuss probably vacation together.
