I know a little of his reputation, but have never read him.
Is there anything in particular you'd recommend as a first read?

Berry created a fictional place...Port William, KY, and all his writing (not including essays and poetry) emanate from there. It helps a little to read them in order, but is by no means necessary. They are all self-contained but will mention other characters in passing that may have been the central character in another book. There are also several volumes of short stories. As he was never a well-known author, it's a bit of a chore to find his books, so read whatever you come across.

I have a copy of Jayber Crow at home waiting to be read.
