Dude looked like he was coked out. I can see why his church was so popular, I imagine there were a whole lot of horny married men dragging their wives to his sermons.

Wife and I just watched this. We both grew up going to a fundamentalist church...and the way that pastor's use the bible / God to manipulate others is just so very sad.

Sad all around documentary. How in the world does that guy still have a "church"...at the end they still said they had 20 members. Insane.

Men that want to manipulate their wives into providing sex on demand will follow him wherever he goes evidently.

I'll be interested to see if the FBI actually puts any effort into this case and, if so, what they determine.

I'm surprised the congregation didn't run him out sooner as much as he preached about sex and submission. He must have raked in the donations.

What really got me was the support of the people when he's spewing his garbage. How can you listen to that crap...especially the women. He didn't even try to hide it. And the family of the victim just happened to randomly find that parish. Life is so fragile.

That's totally mystifying to me. What did he have on those people?

I would have liked to have heard something from the perspective of the first wife and husband. They were kind of treated as afterthoughts.

How did he keep having her committed? Did I just imagine that can only happen with a court order?

That really shook me.

It's pretty easy to get people involuntarily committed, especially if they already have a history of manic or psychotic episodes. All it takes is a family or friend calling the police and claiming that you told them you were planning to kill yourself. Here in Texas, most cops responding to this call will put you under what is called an emergency detention. This legally allows the police as well as hospitals to hold you against your will for 48 hours or until an order of protective custody is filled out by a physician which lasts up to 20 days and can be extended past that. Most states have similar processes in place. Most physicians will just assume the family or friend claiming the patient's suicidality has their best interest in mind and go along with the emergency detention at least until they have had more time with the patient to determine the legitimacy of the concerns.

Its odd. You just know he had to have had something to do with it and his behavior is suspicious, but you cant get around the fact that she bought the gun and ammo herself, drove 90 miles away, called 911. So odd

I think it's pretty obvious that she committed suicide but I do think he threatened her with something(pics, video, etc) that we aren't aware of which is one of the reasons he was rushing to get any form of documents from her. She probably just gave up and decided it wasn't worth fighting anymore.

Ah. Good point. Maybe I was thrown off by the suggestion in the show that someone "lured" her there.

I bet he threatened to post vids of homeless people jacking off on her.

And didn't they mention that the spent casings were nowhere near her body? It's a head-scratcher for sure.

She was found in a river or creek. They hand waved away the obvious answer with something like "the water is slow moving", but even slow moving water can move a body a 100 feet over an hour or two. I hated that they tried to make it seem like someone else killed her when she was literally on camera buying the gun immediately before and then told a 911 operator she was going to do it.

This is the problem with modern true crime documentaries. It's not enough for them to lay out the facts. They seem to always throw out wild, dangerous or absurd accusations that have no basis in reality and then hide behind "we're just asking questions." The pastor was evil enough based on the facts. No need to ignore the obvious to make it seem like he was the one who shot her in the head.

100%. They set the whole thing up to lead you to believe there would be some reveal that he killed her, then basically shrugged their shoulders and said "well, he drove her to it". Still a despicable human being, but anything for views.

Why are there multiple spent casings at the scene of a suicide?

bc she is a bad shot - maybe she wanted to make sure it worked,

I couldn't believe he was allowed to be a preacher at the same church after his 1st affair. When you consider all the circumstances its next level! His new wife must be BSC.

I also thought there was foul play involved with the guy that died in the wheel chair

Lake Houston Baptist Church back in the day, had a pastor who was sleeping with the deacon wives. Half the church wanted him to leave, the other half wanted to give him a pay raise. Fast forward to today, things have not changed.

I've read the bible front and back and have not found where it says, And God said unto thee, blessed are thy pastors who sleep with thy deacon wives.

I get forgiving someone but a person in that position of the church should step down and leave the church. Probably never be a preacher again.

Oh he left the church after months of infighting. Only to take half the congregation and start a new church.

In an era where a solid % of women are blaming Patrick Clancy in some way shape or form for Lindsay Clancy methodically murdering her three children in cold blood, this should be a certified banger.

A sexual dalliance used to be widely considered an automatic disqualification from being a pastor any longer. Sadly, not so widely anymore.

In most congregations if a pastor cheats on his wife with a young married member of the church he would be fired. This congregation evidently is made up of horn dogs that like the twisted message the pastor is delivering on Sundays. He is basically preaching that a horny husband can't be blamed for cheating if his wife allows Satan to tempt him by denying him enough sex. That was the essence of pretty much all of the sermons they showed. Anyone that listened to that message repeatedly that continued to attend services wouldn't leave for anything as long as their wives continued to listen.
