It's very tough to see families go through this. Monthly injections help out a ton. Abilify.
The care giver burnout can be exhausting and then the people suffering with bipolar in turn get upset because their loved ones "don't love me or understand me". So they wind up in a mental health hospital. Half of my caseload was Emergency Detention from wanting harm themselves or making threats to harm others.
Have you ever tried to lead a group therapy session with multiple people in mania? Hyperverbal city!
Imagine three Kanye's in a room just shouting out whatever is on top of their head and cutting each other off every 10 seconds. Just wild grandiose thoughts, ideas and somehow they are always rich.
The sad part is being so manic or paranoid that they refuse to get lithium or medicine because they don't think anything is wrong with them or the hospital is trying to "poison" them. If I had a nickel for every time I heard say "I'm going to sue this place"….then I'd be a rich man.
Anyways…..hope he can figure out a way to deal with those demons.
