Thinking about taking my kid to see Hamilton in NYC. I am passionate about our country and this era in particular. For anyone who has seen it - is it pro or anti- American. That will inform my decision.

Hamilton isn't anything political. It's a great show. Go see it.

But their performers were political. Harassed Pence out of their theater. Not a fan of supporting them for that reason.

It's the old 1776 style historical musical but it's about Hamilton and Burr. It's good. The original cast filmed version is on Disney plus.

This past December I saw it with my wife and son in London and it was fantastic. I'd never seen it and didn't know any of the songs but my son did, which helped since he wasn't too keen on going to a musical with his parents but he enjoyed it as well.

As we were leaving I overheard a British guy tell his buddy "I thought Jefferson was supposed to be good?"

It's genuinely awesome, and I'm not a big theater fan. Seen original cast on Disney + (twice, several years apart). Saw the live show (not original cast) at the Majestic a few years ago.

Don't overthink or overanalyze this. It's a great work of art on perhaps the most badass period of American history.

I love Hamilton. It's not 100% factual, but it's a great show.

I took my husband (who is not into musicals or theater shows) a few years ago in Houston and he actually said he really enjoyed it.

Go in for an entertaining show. Don't let the outside politics get in the way. If you let actors' politics get in the way of your entertainment you'll never be able to watch a movie or TV show ever.

Based off a semi-nonfiction book about Hamilton's life. Enjoy it for what it is, a musical.

See it in NYC. They probably have the best cast. The touring cast in Houston at the Hobby Center was very mediocre last time they came. Especially the guy playing Hamilton. The Eliza in the Houston touring cast was good.

I know I'm in the minority but I will gladly miss my "shot". My wife and I checked it out on Disney+ when it came out with the original cast and couldn't make it all the way through. Just awful and boring.

You obviously may enjoy it though.

My wife & I saw it on Broadway a few years ago. Thoroughly enjoyed it. There is no political spin to the story. Just a classic musical. If you like hip-hop/rap, you'll really enjoy it.

Had the chance to meet Lin Manuel Miranda a few years back and told him I thought Hamilton was a work of genius (I really think it is inspired). He seem genuinely surprised and appreciative and very down to earth.

Seen the play a few times and would jump at the chance to see it again. So many great songs and historically interesting tidbits. Don't hesitate to see this musical.

Pretty sure the cast that did that has long since been replaced. Maybe some of the same ensemble members are still in the show, but they've replaced all or most of the principals multiple times since then.

OP, I've seen Hamilton four times and every time I've enjoyed it and picked up something new. It really is a work of genius on a lot of different levels. I'd say it's very pro the classic American dream and very emotionally compelling in how it portrays the revolution. Not super historically accurate overall, but it has inspired so many people I know, who otherwise had no interest, to investigate our history. I did have an interest in history before seeing the show, and it even prompted me to research a lot of the people and events. If you can see it in New York, do it. The touring cast is talented, but nothing can fully measure up to the New York cast.

I saw it with Miranda, Odom, and Soo in the cast. I'm not a hip hop fan, not sure I can even define what that is, but I liked the show. The whole "suspend reality and imagine every historical character is a different race and gender" is not my thing, but that wasn't even a distraction. It was just great theatre.

You'd have to be quite the snowflake to consider this harassing someone out the theater. It's not like they were calling for him to be hung.

Here's the deal:

I pay for performers to perform. I don't pay to hear what they think. They can do that on social media or on a talk show.

Zero chance they would have said "Hey, VP Harris, tell your boss he just funded terrorism when he gave $6 billion back to Iran. You know they are just going to use it have their cronies attack Israel."

Zero chance that anyone in the entertainment industry criticizes a leftist politician.

Pro-American except for the whitewashing King George III. His perfidy is portrayed as catchy camp.

Exactly.

I saw the show about 3 weeks before this and wow did I love Javier Munoz as Hamilton. It was one of Jackson's last performances as Washington too and he brought the house down.

I'm guessing if they did, you'd have no issue with them giving their opinion about it. You just don't like it because you don't agree with them.

Hamilton is a brilliant show. Go see it if you have the chance.

I don't really agree. The example you came up with would never happen, sure, but I could see them asking a CA governor to end policies they see as unfair to the homeless, or standing with the Palestinians or something.

Not that it really matters for this thread! Regarding Hamilton, the only concern I'd have for seeing it live would be the same concern I have for any musical I'm not familiar with in advance - I only catch about 50% of the lyrics in any song. When we watched it on Disney+ we had subtitles and it helped a ton. If it's your first exposure to it, I could see walking away from Hamilton live and not really understanding certain parts.

I also think there's a misconception that it's only hip hop / rap. I certainly thought that when I first saw it. "Room where it happens"'is a classic almost Gershwin number, all of King George's songs are essentially British Invasion,Burn is a beautiful ballad. There is rap and hip hop through out but LMM mixed tons of different broadway musical styles It's a phenomenal piece of art. I'm not a huge fan of LMM's voice so any song he sings vs raps on the soundtrack I tend to skip.

Really simple: Get a Disney+ trial and check it out for yourself. You'll know pretty quickly whether you want to sit through the whole thing or not.

Watch it online on Disney plus with the captions. I saw it live and could not understand what they were saying.

That would definitely help. I saw it live first and couldn't understand what they were saying either, but then again, i'm old and half deaf.

Either watch It on Disney plus or listen to the soundtrack first and you'll enjoy it live so much more.

I loved it when I saw it, but it really helped that I heard my kids/wife listening to it so much that I knew most of the music. I think that's true of almost all musicals; listen to the music a few times before going. For one thing, you'll be able to understand the songs better and that will help you understand the show better.

Why would you be sitting around at a show AFTER IT WAS OVER, then?

Any normal person would leave the theatre after the show wrapped, and not sit around for bows, personal remarks, and cast adulation.

Yep- we know the answer. You weren't there. You're just looking for something to be upset about, and trying to pretend you can separate politics from entertainment when you in fact can't.

It's not like they paused the SHOW for that.
