Couldn't find a thread in this documentary that premiered November 1 on Disney+.

Very well done, though maybe 10-15 minutes too long. It's a celebration of his life (so far) and all his music. I had no idea how much he did in the 20 years before Jaws where he first started becoming a household name. He's 92 now, but he was 91 in most of the interviews where he's sharp as a tack and still a good piano player. It's hard to overstate his influence on film and culture.

Bah... gonna have to find another way to watch that.

I always love hearing stories about Williams. I especially love the story told in the Netflix documentary about Home Alone when they joke about sending the movie to John Williams to ask him to do the music. It surprised the hell out of them when he said yes.

And what you get is another one of his iconic scores. Can you imagine Home Alone without John Williams' score?!

Without Williams, Jaws would have been Orca.
Without Williams, Star Wars never would have continued to The Empire Strikes Back.
Without Williams, we never would have had that awesome moment when a future President asked young Kevin a question.

There is a great reason why JW was shown in some footage where he was named one of the three most important parts of the Indiana Jones movies (prior to Dial of Destiny), along with Spielberg and Ford (and much to the apparent butthurt of Kathleen Kennedy).

Star Wars alone would put Williams in the top 5 of all time, just like LOTR for Shore.

Add in his other work.... he's in his own stratosphere.

My 7th grade science nerd kid regrets to inform you that the stratosphere is the second lowest level of the atmosphere, and the term you probably should use is the exosphere, which turns into the black space above the planet.

She also tells me that "science has changed a lot since you went to school in the olden days."

Home Alone 1-2 scores (and soundtracks) are essential Christmas-time music for me every year.

That was a good watch. I thought I knew of all of his scores but no, not even close. My wife has never seen Schindler's List, but commented that the music was beautiful. I have only seen the movie twice with no plans to watch it again. I told her that yes, it is a beautiful score, but it is one that is forever tied to that movie. Unlike all of his other scores, I am unable to separate that score from that movie.

I am not a documentary guy but that was fantastic and moving. It really saddens me how old he is now.

There will never be anyone like him. I'm a huge Zimmer fan as well, but Williams is just different.

Truly outstanding! I waited until my oldest son was home from college this week to watch it with him, and was entertained, amazed, and inspired.

So glad they made this while he is still healthy and here to be part of it. Will never be another like him.

Not a big Disney+ guy huh?

I'd say the ESPN+/HULU/DISNEY+ bundle I have is one of the best subscriptions I have.
