I had never heard this story.
But apparently, for some reason Jerry Lewis set out to make a Holocaust movie in the early seventies, which would have been before anyone had done it. It got as far as shooting, and then Lewis walked away.
It's kind of a mythical story in Hollywood apparently, but now Scorsese is doing a documentary on it, and may even have some of the footage.
Will watch this 100/100 times.

David and Patton talked about it on Cross's podcast this year and it sounded amazing.

I thought this post was going to be about Pagliacci/Joe Davola.

I always thought that the subject movie was just to heavy to do right.

On some level it had to have some humor in it, or at least people would expect it if Jerry Lewis was a clown in it. And mixing that with marching kids to a gas chamber just seems like too much.

The closest movie I can see think of that tried that approach was Life is Beautiful, which is a wonderful film, but they were able to keep it somewhat lighthearted

I knew I had heard of this somewhere! I think Patton talked about it on an episode of Comedy Bang Bang, or at least it was discussed at some point without him with Scott and Paul
