Somehow never watched this movie until last night. I enjoyed it, but watching that guy get scalped and then chopped in half wasn't the best bedtime story. What was the reception of this when it first came out?

The scene you're describing was one of the very few times I had to look away from the screen when watching something.

It's a very good movie and almost feel like they could have done without that scene. I hesitate to recommend this movie to people because of it. Or I'll give them a warning, "btw, there's an extremely brutal cannibal murder towards the end"

Yeah, somehow it slipped by me initially but I watched it recently. That scene is insane.

But it's overall really well done. It really does build up dread and those 'primitives' are scary as hell. just a terrifying concept.

Outstanding movie. Kurt Russell in a Western. Can't go wrong. Bizarre role for Sean Young. The old man's dialogue is outstanding.

I'm watching it now. I don't think anyone I know has seen this. It's great so far. I just saw the scalping scene.

So basically this is THe Hills have Eyes the western?

Overall good movie with one scene that's over the top macabre. Would have been great without it.

I thought it was a very good movie. That scene was over the top, but still the creepiest thing to me wasn't that part. It was those women help captive by the Troglodytes. They were hobbled and kept pregnant. So with them being perpetual birth machines…where were all the children? I know the answer, but even with the butchering scene, the worst part of the movie was still implied.
