Midway through my second spin and digging the hell out of it. Cosmic twangy Southern yacht rock is a great description.

Is it just me, or does Swamp of Sadness sound a lot like Voices from Metamodern Sounds?

I'm 1/2 through my second listen and I love it! Such a cool unique sound.

So good. Dude just does whatever he wants and then does it well.

And yes it sounds just like Voices. Thought the same thing.

So far Scooter Blues may be my favorite track

On the 4th song now. So far I can't pinpoint how I would describe this album. Lol. I think Sturgill is super talented and I actually love that he's willing to release any type of music he wants but that makes him hard to connect with at times.

Wow…Did not know this was coming…thanks for the heads up. Like all Sturgill albums…you never know what you'll get.

Probably not his top album…but dang good. Jupiter and One for the Road are the standouts to me. Really great sound and a good album to "escape" to.

Small tangent. I kinda like that he calls God a women. Technically if we're all made in God's imagine, and God created women, then God could be referred to as a women too. At least that's what I was thinking of while listening to Who I Am.

I must agree with those that said it gets better on the second listen. First listen is pretty unremarkable. Second listen and the depth comes out. Nothing that is mind blowing, but so far I kinda like it.

I gave it a listen this weekend and it's decent but not my favorite Sturgill. After listening to this I went back and listened to Sound & Fury as well as Cuttin' Grass Vol. 1 and those are more in line with my taste. I can appreciate that Sturgill just does what he wants in the studio, regardless of what anyone else thinks.

Pretty meh overall. Sturgill has an amazing voice, but musically and lyrically it's an incredibly bland album.

A year ago there's no way I would have believed a new Sturgill and a new Eminem album would come out in the same week and that the Eminem album would be the better of the two.

My gold vinyl came in the mail yesterday. After two spins I really like it, Sturgill is an artist that I love every release. Even with Dood & Juanita, where musically it was my least favorite, I still love the big swings he takes and his new approach with each album.

I love the groove on this album. The guitar playing is great.

Now he just needs to add a damn Houston tour date!!!! My biggest "what could have been" concert was a pit ticket to see him on the Sound & Fury tour (which is a masterpiece album to me) with Tyler Childers opening (touring on his second album). Covid hit and the rest is history but MAN that would have been a great show!!!!

after several listens, Jupiter's Faerie is the standout for me.

Maybe because it feels familiar, but just a beautiful song that stands up with some of his best.

Funny seeing him pop up on Sirius XM. "Right Kind of Dream" was being played there. I agree with above in thinking 'meh'. Sort of monotonous, synth pattern and unremarkable lyrics. Still better than most of the crap on that station these days. Haven't heard any of the other songs and not sure I will actively seek them out.
