Josh Greenbaum will direct the film from a screenplay by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Gad, while Kevin Salter will executive produce. The project is in early stages, and plot details are being kept under wraps. Amazon declined to comment.
I'm guessing at this point, everyone gets recast since they are either too old or dead?

Please no……

Just make another Star Wars parody if that's what they really want to do that's entirely separate from Spaceballs.

At this point it would be so different due to the cast there's no point in calling it a sequel….

I am unsure if Josh Gad has the ability to write this level of movie, but will be interested to see. It seems like such a bad idea that it might actually work.

Given how bad History of The World Part II was, it's easy to be skeptical. Hopefully they just stick to being silly, and mocking Star Wars.

I'm sure many people have written scripts that no one in power to turn them into movies has read. Is Josh Gad just one of many people writing a spec script that goes nowhere?

Josh Gad has had 5 writing projects in 10 years. 3 of which are failed sitcoms he helped to create.

Somehow he has 9 future writing projects on the board. .

In the right hands it could be a great parody not of Star Wars itself but of how bad Star Wars movies/shows have gotten - think Leia flying through space, preposterous CGI, midiclorians. But odds are it will just fall flat.

I would love to see them skewer the whole "Han shot first" thing where they show a 'revised' version of a scene in the film using the 'digital release' - like the way they got an early VHS copy to 'fast forward' through the movie in the first Spaceballs. "No past this part...in fact, never play this again"

Gad is a Star Wars nerd, so I hope that means he picks at the newer Star Wars films like all the fanboys have for years.
