My family gifted me tickets and while we sit and chill in the only Alamo Drafthouse theater in the greater Houston area I realized there's no thread for this film….

I hold the original Inside Out as the best Pixar film made. Period. In case you're curious on how I'd rank the top 3 for me it's:

1. Inside Out
2. Coco
3. Toy Story 3

And before you gather your torches and pitch forks….Up would be 4th.

But the first Inside Out I've told people since it came out, that not only is it an amazing film…but an important film. It teaches such a valuable lesson on how any emotion not kept in check will always have a negative outcome and all emotions are important…and they did it in the most imaginative way only Pixar could deliver.

Can't wait to see this film! I've been trying to avoid information on this movie but from what I've gathered it's being pretty well received by audiences and critics.

Also, the theater looks like it'll be packed with no available tickets for sale. Hope this thing does great!

All I could think through most of that movie was "wow, I wish I could go back in time and show this movie to 12 year old me". I had tears throughout the entire third act.

Incredibly well done - touching, funny, and beautifully animated. Riley's story in this movie is given equal time with the Emotions. It hit me so hard seeing/remembering how the stakes of every decision you make at that age feel SOOOO huge.

My favorite Pixar's are Coco, Toy Story 2, Up, The Incredibles and Wall-E. This is up there with them.

All in all I really enjoyed it. It didn't hit me has hard emotionally as my top 3 Pixar films above (came close though) but was still really enjoyable, relatable, and at a few moments insanely hilarious.

The dog and Pouchy hands down had me laughing non-stop. With the dog clearly being a reference to Blues Clues and pouchy being a reference to Toodles from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

But the harder emotional moments while not hitting me 100% they were still good….main ones I remember:

The first time we hear, "I'm not good enough."

Joys rant on the lift about how hard is to be constantly happy and knowing she's constantly in denial.

Joy coming to the thought that it might be necessary to have less happiness as you get older.

Anxiety tearing up while Joy is talking to her realizing all that she's done while hells breaking lose at the control panel is destroy Riley instead of helping.

My oldest son is turning 13 this august and has been doing gymnastics since he was 4. He busts his butt hard without any push from my wife or myself and parts of this movie had me thinking of him and what he might be dealing with.

Again, didn't hit me as hard as the first one but that's likely just due to my own experiences and I can definitely see how for other folks this movie would rank higher than the original.

Good stuff Pixar!

I saw it yesterday and it was amazing. Even better than the first, IMO. Several legitimate "laugh out loud" moments, but incredibly emotional third act. Got really dusty in the theater. Like someone else said, I wish I could show it to my 12 year old self.

Went Friday night with two teen daughters and an elementary son.

All of my kids love and play a lot of sports. The gonna-be-senior, walked out and in a very serious tone, said "Wow….that was relatable…"

I'm not sure it's better than the first but man it's close. They're both super relatable to teens and parents of teens that have watched them closely climb through life.

We all loved it!

My kids first theater experience was Inside Out. First time I ever saw my daughter shed a tear for a show was watching Bing Bong disappear.

So this one was special for us. Really very thoughtful extension from the first one. Emotions and growing up is so complex and confusing. Loved it though. It's perfect timing for us because we've seen shades of boredom/sarcasm with my daughter and it was hilariously relatable to us all. I could see her and my wife smirking all the way through that stuff.

Favorite character was Nostalgia. Had us rolling..

Much like in the first film, you can cut all the emotions and have a really great story of just Riley. Brautiful look at the fear of growing up meaning fewer happy days and how to make I through those turbulent years to adult hood

Good movie. Also have a 15 yo boy, and 12 girl, so pretty relevant. I'm not an emotions guy, but think it's important to get perspective and a good intro for kids handling things differently. Also fun to point out things my daughter actually does, that also helped her recognize the irrationality of it.

Wife and I took the kids to the first one and thought it was just ok at best. Just didn't resonate. Maybe it's because we are boy parents, no daughters?

I was genuinely surprised they made a sequel.

Glad y'all liked it.

I really miss going to these films with the kids (they are way too old now).

Took the kid to a showing this morning. He loved it. I thought it was quite good but I don't think I'd quite put it up there with the top 5 Pixar movies but it was very very good. Great message for the kids.

And Riley has a hell of a slap shot.

Just got back, wow, what an amazing movie. Definitely on another level than the first one. My fav Pixar movie for sure. What an amazing message for young adolescents, and hell, probably even a lot of adults can connect with it. My kids absolutely loved it, as did I.

Sometimes when I take my kids to the movie I'm like "yay this is fun" and then the movie starts, and internally im kind of like "okay, when is this going to be over with?". This movie was a joy for all. Highly recommend.

This movie is going to kill it.

My daughter is younger (almost 4), so the teenage stuff here didn't resonate as much with us. That said, we loved this movie just as much as we loved the first one. My wife really struggles with anxiety and I don't, which has often been a pinch point for us as I just cannot understand her struggle. Seeing it visualized like this made it make sense more for me.

As a clinical therapist, this movie is absolutely amazing for opening a dialogue with your kids and teens on emotions and why we feel a certain way sometimes.

I will watch this movie and recommend it to clients.

Guess me and my wife are in the minority but neither of us liked it much. Didnt really like the first either though. Actually kind of surprised so many are saying how great it was.

The trailer for Despicable Me 4 really made me realize what different level these two studios operate on. That entire trailer is just filled with stupid humor aimed at toddlers and small children. Just cheap laughs.

There may be a little of that in Pixar movies, but there is actual depth that none of those stupid Minions movies will ever have.

I took my 10 year old daughter and 10 year old niece to see it on Friday. I thought it was so beautifully done. The whole plot about how Riley's sense of self was constructed had me in tears, as I've been watching my daughter's sense of self evolve from that sweet, innocent, rosy outlook to more self-doubt starting to creep in as she ages. It was just lovely how they tied it all together in the end.

I also thought the personification of anxiety was brilliant - the way she was so positive that she was helping Riley until she lost control… It really resonated with me and my daughter, who is FAR more emotionally intelligent than I was at her age. She's struggled with anxiety and panic attacks over the last year or so, and I think seeing how the other emotions helped calm anxiety down was good food for thought. This is a movie we'll watch again for that reason alone.

And finally, the scene when puberty hit and a construction crew barged in and just started tearing the place apart…. Genius way to portray the absolute chaos that is a teenage girl's mind and body during that time. My stepdaughters are 20 and 18, so I've been there done that, and when Riley sat up and yelled at her parents for no reason, I could not stop giggling. Very relatable.

Genuinely curious….in your line of work which movie do you hold in higher regard in relating/recommending it to clients….the first one or this one?

They're both great to me but curious to hear your take.

The first one focuses mainly on how any overpowering emotion regardless of its purpose is negative and all emotions are important when kept in check.

This one does focus on the same thing but deals with more complex (or new) emotions as you come of age and the complexity of building your character and beliefs.

My boys love Inside Out and had been begging us to go see Inside Out 2. I say both movies resonate no matter what gender you or your kids are.

My kids had been asking to see it since they saw/heard (podcasts) marketing for it in February. We were at the beach for a few days and I booked tickets Saturday night for Sunday night and told them the night before and they woke me up at 630am (after I had stayed up until 1:30am watching the A&M/Florida CWS game) on Father's day telling me to get us packed up so we could leave for the movie.

My 5 year old's first words to me when she woke up and crawled into bed on Father's Day "Daddy, can you buy me an ICEE?"

"huh?"

"At da movie theata'"

Well put. This is exactly how it feels for us too. Although we see more of that boredom look from her, I'm sure anxiety is playing a part too.

My boys love the minions movies and watch them over and over, but couldn't give a squirt about Inside Out. In the household, only their mom really liked it. They also loved Grinch, Seceret Life of Pets, Super Mario Bros - just about everything Illumination does. Kids movies don't need depth.

Illumination makes fun movies for kids, Pixar now makes movies aimed at middle aged females that sometimes also appeal to kids.
