We watch Mark Rober a bit in the house but would enjoy other channels in the same vein. Any recommendations for kids appropriate educational stuff that isn't preachy? Is smarter every day still around? I appreciate the recommendations.

We love both of these.

We also do Brains On! and WOW! In The World for podcasts. They have google dots in their rooms and listen a little bit before bed. They learn a whole lot about science from those, and most importantly, it makes them curious enough to ask follow up questions where we can dive in deeper, and you can start to find out what they are interested in. It's great.

I think we're the same class so our kids are probably around similar age (I have a 9 year old and a 5 year old)

Don't know if Dr Mike is entertaining enough for young kids but I don't remember him swearing or anything like that…

Also it's also medical so not the same as Mark Rober but still goes into science of the body

Yep my oldest turns 8 next month and our middle is 6. Podcasts are a good idea.

My kids found science max on YouTube and love it, and peacock has few seasons as well.

They have an episode where they explain how boats float and build an aluminum foil boat.

My daughter's favorite episode since it helps her understand what daddy does and I'm sure your kids will like it too.

They also like the dinosaur george podcast after the traveling museum came to their school.

We haven't dived into YouTube, mostly because as you mentioned, it has to be supervised and I haven't had the bandwidth to actually sit and watch what she's watching. But we do love podcasts! Last summer we drove across the country and I downloaded tons of episodes of The Past and the Curious, But Why, and Tumble for my 9 (then) year old. We both really enjoyed them all.

I also selectively listen to episodes of Stuff You Missed in History Class and The History Chicks with her, depending on the subject. Her interests are more scientific, while I prefer history, so their episodes about various scientists are interesting for us both.

DIY SCI is pretty good. He usually makes something explode or blast off.

Might be too young for your kids but Fetch with Ruff Ruffman was a favorite in our household. It was on PBS and now on YouTube.

Are you looking for interesting math stuff in general or actual curriculum type of stuff where you learn how to actually do it?

For interesting math I really like Numberphile and 3Blue1Brown is incredible. That man's animations unlocked so many things in my head. It is incredible to SEE the math as it is occurring and why it happens the way it does. I finally understand Fourier series on an intuitive level now thanks to him.

For straight learning appropriate to actual school work, it would depend on the topic. Professor Leonard is a godsend for all levels of calculus. Jeff Hansen is king for Statics (even if he is a tche prof) and so on. Got more if you narrow it down. ETA: Almost forgot the Organic Chemistry Tutor. That man also pumps out so much incredibly useful work across all STEM topics, not just chemistry. His math examples are top notch and he works through a ton of real math problems you will see in school. When it comes to broad range learning with a very heavy focus on math of all levels, OCT is a great starting point.

check out Prodigy math and STMath.

Both are browser based.

Prodigy is kind of cool because its almost like an RPG "game".

Our kids have IXL and it is also browser based and they use it to study math, science, English etc etc and kids can work ahead by grade level amd they get awards in the program as they spend time on it and get lessons correct.

Agree on IXL as a great app for math. Does a good job gamifying it without any fluff. Also , breaks it down well into groups for grade level and topic

I found a channel recently (CoolWorlds) and it made me think about this thread. I've absolutely loved the content. The channel is run by Columbia University professor David Kipping and it largely deals with astronomy and astrobiology. There is also another channel he runs (Cool Worlds Classroom) that goes into more detail instead of a more surface level discussion. The former is more geared towards kids but I've found some really good videos on both.
