Have yall been watching Mulaney's late night show Everybody's in LA? I love that its a limited 6 part show, and Netflix trying more live content.

I certainly get how this is not for everyone, but I'm a huge John Mulaney fan and I think its mostly very funny. There's a general feeling like its all an inside joke that you are sort of in on, but not entirely. Also theres a sense of everything being a little off-the-rails that is fun. Also at the same time its making fun of, but also loving on LA.

Watched the first one. It was a bit strange but it's clear they are just trying to have some fun. Haven't seen the rest.

I was going to post a thread about it last night. It's very hit or miss.

The first episode with Jerry Seinfeld, the coyote guy for the first twenty minutes had me and my wife rolling. So funny.

Then, inexplicably, they had Ray J on, someone who hasn't been relevant in probably two decades and John inexplicably fellates him for about 15 minutes and takes it deeper than Kim ever could. It was so unfunny and awkward I thought John must have surely owed him drug money or something and leveraged the show to pay him back somehow.

Then a pre-filmed package about people doing open houses in LA. Stavros Halkias, whom I like as a comic, was in there and it was OK. When He looks in a half bath and says "Yeah, I can see myself cranking it in here" was great

Then they brought out Jerry Seinfeld and now with the Coyote guy and Stavros. Pretty funny rest of the show.

The Ray J part was really WTF though.

Anyway, when Mulaney was introducing the show it seemed clear that this was a last-minute deal by Netflix and Mulaney and I'm not sure who approached who. It might have been John who came up with an idea for an interview show with comics that would be in town for Netflix Is A Joke Fest. He said after the 5 live shows, the show was dead and will never come back ever.

Mulaney was holding a clipboard who told him what to do when, so it was obviously a fly-by-the-seat of your pants type of show -- especially for a live show. The Ray J thing kept me wondering wtf that was.

The live callers actually worked quite well in the show.

In sum: Very hit or miss. Mostly hit....maybe 60% hit. It's interesting experimentation for a show, though.

Only made it though the first one, It was ok for me, more odd than funny. Mulaney's standup is great because by the time he does a recording, his sets are so polished. I think he is kinda average when it comes to off the cuff humor. I would probably find a random Letterman/Conan episode from 25-30 years ago funnier than this.

It feels like Nathan For You mixed with the Tonight Show.

Very hit or miss.

Richard Kind is the best part of the show.

Loving the vibe of this so much. It's so off the rails at times, the call-ins are great, and the guests are a lot of fun. The Helicopters/sunglasses episode has been my favorite so far. Haven't watched last night's Earthquake episode with Lettermen and Bill Hader yet, but plan to catch up soon.

Fun fact... Stavros lives on my block. See him often

That's weird. In episode 1 he said that it was a one time deal

To be clear, this isn't a continuation of Everybody's in LA. This is a whole new weekly show. That said, EIA was clearly a test-run of sorts, and this new show will more than likely have roughly the same vibe.

Big Mulaney fan but that LA show was gimmicky and dull.

I'm not sure how you could call it dull. That is a surprising criticism.

I liked the nostalgic feel as a kid of the 80's, and I liked some of the segments with "people on the street" - had a feel of something you might see on Vice. For example, the guy fishing in LA - made me emotional for some reason, just loved his joy at catching something. And it was right in LA.
