It's possible he was sober. Hot tubs are not exactly safe for people with heart conditions, which he likely had.
I hope this doesn’t sound insensitive but I think dying in a hot tub is an iconic hollywood death. He should have had decades more on this stupid earth, but that man made millions of people laugh and taught so many people how to speak English and he went out soakin’.
