Anyone watched it? Thought it was a little corny early, but I ended up enjoying the first season. NeoWestern about Gamewarden who gets caught up in local crime in Wyoming.

I watched it and liked the series which are based off the books. Season two was renewed

Yeah, I'm looking forward to the second season.

I was close to getting paramount+ for Halo, but I waited for it to come out. Glad I did based on everything I read here. I just don't feel the need for the platform, but the premise sounds good.

My wife got it for me last year to watch 1883. Paid for the year. I've watched a few series and a few movies on it.

As someone who is a huge fan of the CJ Box books on which the Joe Pickett show is based, I had high hopes for the show, but I was afraid they would mess it up. I was pleasantly surprised that they did as well with the show as they did. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The books are great! Give them a shot, if you haven't already.

We just finished the first season and thought it was one of the better written series we have seen in a while.
Complete package: Interesting story that starts slowly and races to the end. Drama. Real life situations. Learning from mistakes. Taking a stand. Outdoors. Great acting all the way from the kids to the adults. So good, it was like watching a really good reality show.
Highly recommend and can't wait to start season 2 which is trickling out now.

I saw that on there and it intrigued me. Kind of sounded like Longmire with a Game Warden. So should I watch it? Sounds like several folks liked it?

Yes you should watch the series and read the books by CJ Box. The books are not Pulitzer Prize winning masterpieces or the series will not win a ton of Emmy's, but they are great watching and story telling about a game warden, his family, and the outdoor life in Wyoming combined with crime, murders, and villains.

Very much like Longmire.

My only complaints are some Hollywood ethnicity changes and the little hat that the Joe Pickett character wears. I always envisioned him wearing a traditional cowboy hat. (I don't know why that bothers me as much as it does)

Joe Pickett is a about game warden who's job gets well beyond his job title.
It involves the same region as Longmire and Yellowstone series, but closer to Longmire due to law enforcement aspect.
My wife thanked me for making her go to bed before watching any of the last 4 episodes of season 1 late a night - very tense stuff.

My wife watched part of this terribad series. I laughed out loud at least thrice in the opening 15 min. Terrible CGI elk, terrible dialogue.

For those that have read the books, is it imperative that I read them in order? In the last book swap we got several of the box novels, but not the first one.

It is not imperative, the adventures are stand alone, but it is better if you do read them in order. It follows a family with small kids to them going through high school and college. There is character growth in each book, as well as introduction and elimination of characters along the way.

Season 1 is enjoyable and worth a watch. I wasn't happy with the resolution, but it was still a fun ride.

Season 2 is terrible. I forced myself to watch 4 episodes thinking maybe it was a fun bad, but no, it's just stupid bad.

I don't get the Longmire comparison. They are both set in Wyoming I guess, but other than that, not too similar. Longmire is a badass alpha male, who doesn't take crap from anybody. Pickett is not that guy. Completely different characters. Perhaps similar motivations, but that's about it.
