Since I don't commute any more and don't listen to podcasts while working out or doing things around the house, my podcasting time is generally taken up by keeping up with Pardon My Take. I know it's stupid and it's barstool, but that podcast genuinely makes me laugh multiple times each episode. Amazing chemistry between all of the crew.

Title : Last Podcast on the Left

Genre : Comedy / Crime

Description: hosts Ben Kissel, Marcus Parks and Henry Zebrowski cover dark subjects in an extremely profane way, this is not for everyone. Marcus keeps the episodes on the rails, Ben is like the color commentator and Henry is the impressionist / wild card. All are talented at what they do. They deep deep dive into serial killers and cult and conspiracy stuff. I pretty much only listen to the crime episodes. Most topics take up several episodes. They are actually very in-depth and informative while being completely wild too.

Where to Start:
The Ed Gien Episodes 171 - 174 - If you don't like these, then you won't like the show.
The Charle Manson Episodes 147 - 149
The Jodi Arias Episodes 419 - 420

They've covered pretty much all of the "Big Hitters" as they say. Kemper, Ridgway, Dahmer, Gacy, Bundy ect.

Morning Wire by The Daily Wire - 15min recap of the latest news, perfect for my drive in to work

The Joe Rogan Experience - I think this one is self explanatory, I listen to as many episodes as I can, ~3hrs long, very good for long runs

The Tim Ferriss Show: - Tim interviews an eclectic group of people from business, entertainment, health and wellness, etc, no specfic episode recs, 1.5 - 2.5hrs long

The Rich Roll Podcast - RIch Roll is an ultra-athlete and recovering alcoholic. He interviews all sorts of people but most of the interviews center around bettering one's self. No specific episode recs, 1-2hrs long

Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend - Conan interviews other comedians/celebs/public figures, there's really no set format but it's usually hilarious (depending on the guest), I like the majority of the episodes but the interview with Paul Rudd was particularly funny, ~1hr long

Rob Lowe's "Literally" is very good, with lots of funny stories about working in Hollywood.

The best episodes are when Rob has a former SNLer as a guest, and they riff on Lorne Michaels.

That's a good one, as well. Rob Lowe on COB Needs A Friend was a great episode, as well.

I really like The Rewatchables too

On the Ringer, I also listen to The Big Picture, The Watch and the ringerverse

I also like Smartless and WTF, but mostly depending on the guest

Into the Ringerverse is amazing for recapping and reactions for most marvel, dc, Star Wars stuff. They have two different podcasts on the feed, the Midnight Boys for instant reactions, and then Mallory Rubin does deep doves into the episodes

Inside Marvel / Wookiepedia very similar deep dives as above

Pivot is going to be fairly left leaning for some folks here but they do a great job diving into the news and politics of big tech. Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway (professor at NYU).

Reply All is on a hiatus but they dive into the viral weird **** of the internet and tech

Freakanomics is always great

Same. WTF can be great, but I usually skip the first 10 minutes to get to the interview. And 3/4 of his guests I've never heard of. Smartless usually has solid guests...but their banter can be tiring (vs Conan where their banter is the highlight of the show). This week's episode with Michael Moore was absolutely brutal.

I have a lot in my feed but 3 that I never miss:

Parenting small children:
Unruffled - Janet Lansbury
This woman radically altered my approach to parenting which was more or less mimicking my parents, for good and sometimes very bad. Her philosophy is basically be a zen monk with toddler/small child shenanigans while still enforcing firm boundaries and high expectations.

Politics/World Events:
Making Sense - Sam Harris
This is my weekly dose of confirmation bias. General POV: The media is liberal propaganda to the detriment of the country. Trump was dangerous. The woke left is equally dangerous.

Science:
Science Friday
General current events in the world of science with actual explanations targeted at the layman but doesn't dumb it down. Space, Technology, Geology, Biology, Animals, etc.

I'm a big history nerd, so…

The History of Rome: A fantastic 100+ narrative episode podcast that tracks Rome from its founding to the establishment of its empire, the fall of its republic, and ultimately the fall of Rome itself.

Revolutions: Hosted by the same guy as History of Rome, each season of this podcast tracks a different revolution in world history (think American Revolution, French Revolution, he's currently in the midst of the Russian Revolution). The season on the Mexican Revolution is my favorite single season of podcasting anywhere.

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History: This is for the big deep dives on major sagas from history. Like 5 episodes on the Mongol invasions, or 6 episodes on WWI. Dan Carlin's delivery and depth is great. I know I've seen threads on this show here before. Older episodes cost $ to download, but it's a fantastic show.

Abridged Presidential Histories: Shameless plug - this is my show. Every episode looks at the scandals, setbacks, and successes of a different president's life and administration, in chronological order, in 60 minutes or less. I also added interviews with historians a year ago (starting with Buchanan in the chronology). Latest episode is about McKinley, TR is up next. Fair warning, Texags, I'm a liberal progressive. I'm not going to bash you over the head with it, but it might be triggering to some when I talk about gilded age income inequality or our historic treatment of slaves and minorities. If that's going to bug you, probably not the show for you.
Thanks and gig'em

+1 for Dan Carlin and I'm gonna give the History of Rome a shot as my next big project. I just started a few minutes of your podcast, awesome idea by the way! As an aside, you have good audio quality. Do you use an engineer or what's your gear setup?

One of our favorites is The Tobolowsky Files. Stephen Tobolowsky tells stories of his life, from growing up in Oak Cliff, going to SMU and being a character actor (Ned Ryerson in Groundhog Day) in Hollywood. Best in Class. This is NOT a self-indulgent celebrity promotional vehicle. This is real writing & heartfelt storytelling from a master. Start at the beginning and subscribe. If you listen to one, you will want to listen to all.
