Has anyone seen this? It's a 2021 movie directed by George Clooney about a boy growing up on Long Island and he seeks out father figures among the patrons at his uncle's (Ben Afleck) bar. I know that may sound kind of boring but it takes place in the 70s so the period background is kind of cool (cars, clothes, behavior, etc). I watched it on Amazon Prime and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Lily Rabe plays his Mom and she does a great job as a struggling single mother. The whole movie is really just well done if you ask me. No, it's not exciting with adventure around every turn. But, if you want to watch a movie about life (perhaps the era in which you grew up?) you will love this movie. Anyway, I hope that you enjoy.

Having a movie marathon tonight at home and this is on the list. Affleck and Clooney collaborated on Argo, which was fantastic. Looks like this may be great as well.

I think you'll enjoy it a great deal. Wonderfully directed, and acted. Just one of those movies you can sit back and enjoy and when all is said an done you say *that* was a darn good movie.

ETA. And the little guy who plays JR as a kid just knocks it out of the ballpark.

Sounds interesting, will check it out. Thanks for the reference. Also catching up on The Gentlemen today, only 2 years late

Well you're welcome Bonzer. I have not seen the Gentlemen so you may have hooked me up with another good movie.

Good movie. Affleck played the part well and it is a great fit for him.

Christopher Lloyd and the kid are the key players.

They were certainly great and can't argue with you there. Christopher Lloyd is finally starting to look like the old man that he played in Back to the Future, lol.

We watched this yesterday and enjoyed it. Good story, and nice cast. My wife had read the book about 15 years ago.

Apparently the beach trip scene during the closing credits was a major part of the book.

Was a really good movie. Ben fit the part of the Uncle perfect. Also great oldies soundtrack through out the movie.

I'm intrigued by this one. Kind of feels like the movie about the family that vacations at the beach. Has Steve Carrol in it(?). Kind of a coming-of-age movie.

Such a vague description but that's all I can remember. Lol.

No that's not the one YouBet. I intended for it to be vague because I didn't want to give anything away. I think the general consensus is that it's a pretty decent movie. One of those the whole family can gather around and enjoy. No blood or guts, raunchy sex scenes (well there was one brief scene but no nudity), or the like. Just a good movie that everyone can watch.

I thought it was very meh. The acting was good, but the story didn't go anywhere. It reminded me of hillbillyology. A memoir by someone who hasn't accomplished anything beyond going to an ivy league school and getting a book written about it.

That was The Way Way Back, and was 1000x better than this movie.

As someone who was born in 1981 but would give anything to be able to press a magical button and end up in any year from about 1968 -1994 (with family and friends still intact), I am intrigued by this, and other shows like it.

Yes, that's what I was thinking of.

I concur. Not that interesting of a life experience to write a memoir and have a movie made based on that memoir, IMHO. Good acting, though.

Best part of the movie was the soundtrack.

Would have been better if they chopped it into 2 movies, the kid basically jumps from 8 to 19….I almost never wish for a movie to be longer but they seemed to gloss over a lot, so nothing really seemed difficult or important.

Saw it. Loved it. Very understated.
